IF this has been posted before I apologize. Anyone else having trouble burning DVD video? I'm using Nero and I can't get a good disk. I've tried two different brands. Same result, bad disk. The verification is failing and when I look at the disk the written area has distinct bands. These bands are not the same from one disk to the next even when I use the same media. Is this a bad drive or what? I think there are different brands in the W3, this one is Toshiba Samsung.

Which two "brands" did you try? Honestly... those two retail brands might actually be the same OEM .... so don't rule that out yet.

Also, are you using a full version of Nero? Because the express copy that comes with the systems doesn't do dvd burning.

    Thanks,
    Justin

I can't say for 100% certain that it's the copy I got with the W3V but it is Nero OEM and Nero Express does burn DVD's if you use the Smartstart menu.

The 2 brands I've used so far are Ritek G-04's and Fuji. Both the Ritek and the Nero software do fine on my desktop pc with a pioneer drive.

That's right... I confuse dvd burning with some of the more advanced dvd stuff on the ultra version.... thats basically all that's left off express/oem ......

You should be good with those discs... that's what I'm using.

I had the same issues with my dvd burner in the M6n (toshiba), best advice is to search google for the make of the drive, and compatable media. For me I gave up searching and got an external burner. Also found that this seems to be a common issue with a number of laptop drives, ie it aint an only asus problem.

ps go4 were no good for me either, sham they were great in my desktop, wasted around 20 trying different settings different programs etc.

pss Nero info tool is also great for finding out who the actual maker for each disk is.

I ordered some Taiyo Yuden discs today and will see what happens there. Apparently this drive is really picky with media. Disappointing since it seems to be a commonly used drive by OEM's. The other option is to flash it over to a toshiba drive, but from what I've read the drive loses some speed and functionality.
