Hi guys,
I have been running XP successfully for some time but I am having trouble with DVD playback. I can use VLC for playback, but some of the features are a bit hard to control with VLC (Rewinding to see something over again etc.) and I'd like to be able to use a regular DVD player software, or even Windows Media Player. When I try to do this it says that the DVD drive should have come with a decoder or codecs or something to play DVD's. Does anyone know how to get this working? I know it worked in Vista![]()

bump.
Trying to get this thing done by the end of the week! Thanks for any help!

Sidenote: What do you mean rewinding? I think you just click on the slider and the movie will go back to that location in VLC.
-
In fullscreen I can never get a slider or any controls to pop up...

Ah. In full screen you need to do SHIFT+LEFT ARROW (or RIGHT ARROW) for small steps back or forward; and CTRL+LEFT ARROW/RIGHT ARROW for large steps. The more you keep it pressed, the more it accelerates. That should do it.

Thanks, I like VLC but trying to get S/PDIF etc working has been a pain so I'm just wondering if there was something sent by Asus that I could use. Does anyone know how to get the buttons on the front of the computer to work with VLC?

Vista Home Premium or Vista Ultimate comes with a DVD codec built in. With laptops that come with XP, Asus provides a DVD player called AsusDVD (pretty much PowerDVD from Cyberlink licensed to Asus). Installing AsusDVD installs a DVD codec which then also allows Windows Media Player to play DVDs.

My laptop came with Vista and I put XP on it. Is there any way to get the AsusDVD program?

Isn't it on a separate DVD that was delivered in the box? There's a fair chance that kit will work just fine in WinXP.
