EDIT: OK. someones playing games with me.
After about 8 DVD+R coasters, it's burning normally again. Dunno what that was about.

    Hi guys,

I have a W3V with the "TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L532A" DVD writer. I'm trying to burn a backup DVD+R data disc through the included Nero software, however it doesn't seem to be working.

Going through Nero, everything will appear to be fine until the end, when it tries to verify the data. That would fail. When I try to access the DVD via windows explorer, it will show it as blank. When i try to create a new folder on the disc using windows explorer, it gave me a file system error.

Looking through Event Viewer, I see a many "The device, \Device\CdRom0, has a bad block." under system.

I tried burning a normal CD and it was able to do it just fine.
I tried using DVD-RWs and it failed.

The media I'm using is TDK "PrintON DVD+R" 4.7GB single sided 8x compatible and higher.

The nero settings I'm using are: Data Disc (DVD), 8x (11,080KB/s) burn speed, DVD high compatibility mode (at least 1GB will be written), Disc at once, Finalize Disc.

anyone know what the problem might be?

Laptop dvd drives are pretty crap IMHO, if data is important get the best quality media you can afford and burn at the lowest possible speed.
    good luck

    :)
ps try a google for you drive model to see if there is a suggested media list.

Taiyo Yudens are widely considered to be the best blank media. The review unit I had for the HP dv5000z also had the Toshiba-Samsung TS-L532. I found burning at 8x caused freezing issues. If I lowered the speed to 4x, it worked much better.

    makken,

Are you able to solve the problem? I also have the same issue with this DVD drive. I bought this W3V about a year ago. I've been buring dvd-r with this drive with no problems at all before, until recently I tried TDK's dvd+r and I started to have a similar problem as yours. Now I can't even burn dvd-r anymore

I sorta had the opposite situation, wawawa.
I was having problems playing Taiyo-yuden -R discs --burned on my W3V-- on my standalone Sony dvdplayer. Then switched (thanks to some advice from this forum) to +R (TDK, in my case) and now they play on my standalone.

But like others have already mentioned try burning at 4x and, if possible, experiment with some quality brands (Maxell, TY, Fuji, Verbatim...).
