I am using a w3V and am finding that my DVD burner is constantly burning duds discs.I have lowered the burn speed and changed brand to Imation and still the problem persists. The few times I have burned DVD RWs they have been completely fine(I normally try to burn DVD -Rs). Does anyone have an answer for this? or do you think it could be a faulty drive.

Taiyo Yudens are widely considered to be the best media. What burner is it?

Best idea is to find the model of your burner and do a search for compatable media. The manf, will most likely have a list, if not try a test yourself, by getting a few different discs and seeing which one works the best. But personally I had the same issues with the burner in my notebook, and I will never trust a slim line again, save your self some time and hassel and pick up a desktop burner and external casing. Not very portable but if burning to dvd is a regular thing for you, the cost saved on dud discs is worth it!

Did you try it on ASUS laptop? Is the bezel fit?

The bezels on the panasonic and toshibia drives that Asus uses on their systems are both different and NEC and pioneer both have different bezels as well.......... making a swap like this is going to require you already have one of the Asus drives, so you could use the custom bezel and driver carrier.....

... then you're going to need to customize the bezel to work........ ejection buttons and emergency ejection holes are in different spots on almost EVERY brand drive... so you are more than likely to run into an issue....... it's up to you how much trouble you think it's worth when the drives aren't leaps and bounds better than what Asus already uses.

Yeap thats why I say if you need to do a lot of dvd burning then a quality external burner is the cheapest and only option.

An external laptop drive in a case like the NEC is another option if you'd like something more portable. I use my 6500 in an external usb case since the DVD burners offered on ThinkPads are of poor quality in my opinion. The NEC does very good burns. If you are not using it much while on the road, and external desktop drive as Underpantman suggested will have much faster burn times.
