    Hi,

I have a W3J with a TSSTCorp TS-L632D CD/DVD burner. I just bought some fujifilm DVD+R with speed rate at 1x to 16x. I tried burning 2 different data dvd's with the Nero OEM edition and both came out blank. As when I put them back into my DVD drive the say blank cd. Is there a problem with my drive or is there a way to update my DVD's drivers/firmware???

    Thanks

Well if you are using the OEM Nero try updating it, as well as your drives firmware. Nero can be buggy at times and I have had several strange instances with it not burning properly as well. Upgrading the optical driver's firmware or reinstalling/updating Nero has always solved my problems.

Go to the Samsung ODD firmware page. The latest firmware for the TS-L632D is SC03 (15-Feb-07). You can either use the Live Update utility or download the specific BIOS update.

Not burning the disc at all is unusual. More common is a poor burn which gives problems during read or verification. If you continue to have problems, check the media ID and search for reports on compatibility. I have found the TS-L series fairly well behaved but I have problems with both the 632D and 632M and RicohJPN D00 dual layer media. If you need, I can give a list of the media which I find OK.

    Hi,

Would it be possible for anyone to post that or e-mail the file? I have a Z96JS with the same driver but all the Samsung page says is "State: It does not support" - on both manual and auto modes - even after I install the darn Live Update app and register it (which they force you to do...which is technically illegal where I am). It's mad and is trying to force me to get the firmware somewhere else, like from ASUS, since Samsung doesn't have to give support for it (like what ASUS did to ATI to prevent users from downloading without the bypass link so they don't have to deal with people using versions they didn't approve of and post). Also, did anyone see any improvement? I'm currently running the latest TS632LD ASUS version from Nov/Dec AC99....if anyone is able to use that tool to get the firmware I mean.

    Thanks,
    Peter

P.S. Darth, by default Nero doesn't select to burn to the DVD, it tries to burn to 'Image Recorder' which seems fine except that it isn't using the drive at all. Also make sure that it isn't set to do 'test burns' which some Nero versions have set as default. Also, do the DVDs look like they were burned at all? It's visible if any writing at all took place, just compare them with the other blanks and another disc you've burned and you'll see. It sounds like Nero is just doing screwy things though and those above tips should help I hope :)

I'm not sure why you can't get at the Samsung ODD firmware update. It could be a check for whether the ODD is master or slave and whatever you have isn't the same as the update. It seems that the SN-S series ODDs have downloadable firmware but not the TS-L series. There must be some subtle differences but I understand they all come off the same production line.

The point about Nero writing to the image recorder would explain why nothing is on the disc. As far as I know, the image recorder writes an ISO image somewhere on the HDD. Have you chosen TS-L632D in the device selection box?
