I just got my Asus U43JC-X1 from Amazon.

I tried to insert a DVD into the dvd drive, but I am unable to load it. The DVD just doesn't fit into the rom, the spindle is slightly larger than the hole of the DVD and it won't fit.

What could be the problem with it? Is it faulty?

Also, I did not get any Windows 7 or recovery disk with the laptop. How are we supposed to re-install Windows or restore the laptop when needed?

Use the recovery partition of the hard drive to create the recovery CD for win 7, You need roughly 4 or 5 CD.

About the DVD drive strange cant help there.

ALL slim CD/DVD/BR trays have a 'tight' feeling.
Why? Because there are little balls or tabs that require you to 'force' it over (gently!) so that it holds the disc properly.

You can see them fairly clearly here:

It will work, you have to press the DVD down onto the the mount in the center of the drive. Just work at pressing it down an you will hear a little snap when it does.
