I have been having problems making DVD's with the Nerovision express that came with the Nero 6 OEM and I think I have found the problem.

The Asus S96J that I have has a DVD-rw drive that is set to be the Secondary Slave. The primary master is my hard drive, there is no primary slave, and there is no secondary slave. Why is this setup like this and how can i change it?

I opened it up and found some sort of serial IDE connector on the optical drive with no jump settings...anyone have any ideas?

By the way: this was ordered from Gentechpc awhile back...Ken is this standard?

The drive being secondary couldn't be helped,it's based of the cable and it's way faster this way (without sharing a cable)
Yes,the optical drives don't have any jumpers to set this up.
The drive being on Slave shouldn't have anything to do with everything.
Can you explain the problem please ?
People usually suggest firmware update @ burning problems. And this usually works.

To give you a better idea of where I'm coming from...I'm actually a computer repair technician at a local computer company and understand hardware...

"The drive being on Slave shouldn't have anything to do with everything."

I don't agree with that, most slave optical drives need a master to function properly.

While I have eliminated my Nero problem I am curious as to why this drive is setup as a Secondary Slave and not a Secondary Master.

I have one optical drive as Master and one as Slave on the same IDE channel and I have never had a problem.

However, I have had setting something as Slave without any corresponding Master cause problems, because it breaks the whole way IDE is supposed to work...

Exactly...an IDE is designed to hold a master on the primary with an optional slave and an optional master secondary (with an optional secondary slave, but not without a master).

I would email your dealer directly for faster response, especially this time of year.

If you could describe the problem in more detail it might turn out that the solution is actually something else. I know laptop hardware can be a bit different from what we are used to in desktops.
