I'm sure somebody has asked this already, but doe any Asus notebooks have DVI out? in addtion to or instead of VGA? I have a 1600x1200 flat panel I would like to use as a second display and after trying many video cards and cables I have found the quality of a DVI connection to be visibly better.
Thanks

No, there's no way to do this right now, but it's something notebooks will offer more readily in the future.

I know the current range of powerbooks offer DVI out, but from memory I think they are pretty much the only ones that do.
My guess is that DVI will start to make inroads next year, but it really depends on how quickly monitor/projectors switch over aswell, the majority of budget outputs still only offer RGB. Untill that changes I doubt many notebooks will come with dvi.

A lot of Dell laptops have them.

Just thought I would let people in on what I have found so far. There are some notebooks out there with the DVI output, namely some from Sony, Acer and a few other brands. There is also the option getting a notebook with a port replicator that has DVI out such as the Dell Lattitudes. Please no flaming on the quality of the brands listed, I just wanted to share what I have found so far. Hopefully Asus will include this feature soon, given the proliferation of high-res flat panels these days.

Justin just posted that dvi should start being offered on some new models in Q4, so I suspect that by next year dvi will be pretty common and alot of notebooks

Brian is correct the Dell notebooks don't have DVI out, but the port replicator for the Lattitude series has a DVI out as does the port replicator for the Sony S series.

I'm glad that Asus finally is starting to put DVI in their computers. They have a few very nice looking models, and if it wasn't for the lack of DVI I would have owned one myself.
(As a side note, some Dells do indeed have DVI onboard. The 9300 has both DVI-D and VGA, there is probably other models that sports it as well) -
Heh heh so not "a lot" as I initially stated... but pretty far from "don't" -
Just for informations sake are the DVI ports on the replicators truely DVI, interfaces or are they just a video converter to alow you to plug a DVI flat panel into a regular video port??

Hrmm.. good question...
I gotta say that I have no idea. Is there any way I can find out? I have an old Inspiron that has a DVI port on it's docking station... would be happy to check if y'all tell me how. -
I stand corrected on the Dells and their port replicators. The question of the DVI connector on the docking stations being a "true DVI" or not is a good one. I would like to know.
