Hi Guys,
A buddy of mine showed me his F3Sv after some local shop mentioned it might have a dead Motherboard.
At first the notebook wouldn't respond after pressing the power button when plugged in, so naturally I took out the battery and sure enough the power light and HDD activity lights came on after a 2nd attempt of turning it on.
The HDD was clearly firing up, as I could hear it. The screen however, only had a black screen, which I would notice after manually turning off the notebook (screen would go from black to dark grey powered off). Also the fan would not even move at this point.
So I completely disassembled the notebook, took out the ODD, HDD, Wireless NIC, and left 1 stick of DDR2 in. Oddly enough I could not find the CMOS battery, but I did find a little button that effectively reset the CMOS.
Finally after putting it back together the fan started working, but it sounded like a dieing scream...
So in short, the screen did not display anything except black, even when connected to an external LCD. The weird thing is that after the notebook is powered on, the caps lock keys light up, the hdd seems to boot, but there is no data to be displayed on the screen.
Has anyone else encountered these symptoms with an nvidia GeForce 8600M GS?

If the fan died (making screaming sounds) and the 8600 overheated, it's more than likely shot. If the graphics card is soldered to the motherboard it's time to recover the data from the hard disk and part out the rest. If the graphics card isn't soldered, you may be able to find a replacement with enough patience. Those are hard to find since so many failed.
