I am trying to install Debian Wheezy for past three days.

I see the USB during my boot. When I select the USB and press enter. Nothing happens. Win8 gets loaded as usual. I am not able to figure out where to start. I read lot of content on UEFI, GPT etc. But looks like no one encountered issue similar to mine of USB visible during boot but doing nothing.

I see that people have successfully installed debian on ASUS UX31A. Would like to know if there are any specific settings I need to do to successfully load the USB.

    Note:
I was able to successfully create a live usb for clonezilla and launch it during the boot. While the clonezilla usb is created, I find folders with the name EFI created. However I am not able to find any such folders while I create live USB for debian.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    I tried the below options

    Tools to create the USB
    1. Unetbootin
    2. Universal USB Installer
    3. Linux Live USB Creator

    Images used
    1. Debian Live
    2. Debian CD

    My machine details
    1. ASUS UX31A DH51
    2. 3rd Gen Intel core I5
    3. BIOS V218 - disabled fast boot, secure boot.

Do you have a computer that has linux on it now? I usually just dd the installer image onto a USB stick (this will erase anything on it already). There is uefi support built into the Wheezy installer so you shouldn't have to do anything special.

    Code:
    dd if=/path/to/installer.iso of=/path/to/usbstick
    sync;sync

    Thanks.

I was finally able to install it.

I was using the cd image with 'bios' option 'secure boot' enabled.
After I disabled it, I was trying with debian live image.
Finally I tried with CD image and with secure boot disabled. I was able to install it.

Now I have a different problem.
I got the message 'No efi partition was found' while instlling. I just ignored the message and installed the debian anyway. Now I am not able to load into debian OS. Even when I go to BIOS set up, I dont see any entry for loading into debian OS. It just loads into Win 8.
    Any suggestions for this?

Hm, it's hard to say without more detail. Have you also disabled fast boot and CSM in the BIOS setup? Can you get to a boot media selection menu with either Esc or F8 at power on?

I have disabled both fast boot and CSM. When I go there I do not see anything apart from windows boot manager in the boot option. If I plug in a USB, I could see the USB too in the boot option.

    I don't see anything else.

I guess you'll have to try running the installer again, and keep an eye on the log file (alt+f4) when it gets to installing grub.

Thanks for helping me out. I tried to fix the problem using boot-repair tool. Below is the log it created after fixing the issues. I am still not able to load Debian.

    sda1 - internal hard disk
    sda4 - C drive
    sda6 - debian install partition
    sdb1 - external hard disk
    sdc1 - usb stick (boot-repair)

    Ubuntu Pastebin
