    Hi,
I've decided on purchasing an A7J after reading through the posts here and finding the great link in PROPortable's signature, but have some questions about processors, the memory, the chipset and the video card. I will be going to college this year so I want a notebook that will allow me to get my work done, won't be too heavy and will still be able to play games (CSS, BF2, FEAR and Guild Wars).

The one I'm considering has a T2300 at 1.66. How much will this differ from the T2400 at 1.83?

Will the fsb of the processor be interfering with the memory speeds of the SODIMMs the notebook comes with?

    Will 945 support merom?

Also, the it seems as if the X1600 is capable of playing games at medium settings, but if anyone has these video cards, could you tell me the frame rates you get at various settings?

    Here are the questions:

    1) What is your budget?
Approximately $1500-$2000, though I would prefer it stay around $1600

    2) What size notebook would you prefer?
    Mainstream

    3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
Mainly schoolwork, but with some games as well.

    4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
I will be occasionally taking it to class.

    5) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
I will be playing CSS, BF2, FEAR and Guild Wars.

    6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
I have no brand preference as long as the notebook in question meets my needs and has good build quality.

    7) How many hours of battery life do you need?
I need 2-3 hours of battery life.

    8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
No, but I need testimony from people who already own the notebook.

    9) What country are you buying this in?
    United States

    10) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
I will be playing games at 1280x1024 if possible on the notebook so SXGA appears to be fit my needs.

    11) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
I don't care as long as it looks good.

    12) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
As long as it's not hot pink and/or furry It'll be ok.

    13) How long do you want this laptop to last?
I hope to have the notebook for around 3-4 years.

    14) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 120GB?
    I will need about 60-80gigs.

    15) Do you need a DVD, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-R drive?
    I will need a DVD-CD/RW.

How about the Asus V6J? It has the SXGA+ resolution... not widescreen, but a great portable system. The GeForce 7400 should be enough to play the games you want to play.

As for merom support... we're not totally sure. Theoretically, it's possible...but we can't be 100% sure, so don't hold your breath. However, it is a possibility.

look at any review of the Z83v (A7v) and you'll have a 95% accurate reading on what the A7j is all about....... minus the tv tuner card and plus the 945 chipset...

I don't know what needs confirming..... what you quoted isn't anything special.... the "J" indicates that all by itself.... "J" being a system based on the 945 chipset with dedicated graphics, which is what the "PM" stands for........ so, yes... the A7J will have the 945PM chipset..... but like I said, it's bit repetitive..

I did one :) The Z83v review that is!

It's a great 17" system for a great price, loaded with features. Though it doesn't have the TV tuner?

If that really is a question.. yes, the A7j that will come in as an Ensemble will not have a tv tuner.... it's not targeting that market...
