    Hello all, been planning this for months now and it's a difficult decision.

    W3J
    ++ smaller & lighter
    + better-looking
    + apparently more durable

    V1J
    +++ DVI
    + costs 300€ less (taxes make the difference, since can't buy the W3J for a company from abroad without major hassle)

    The other differences are in my mind irrelevant. Currently I'm leaning slightly towards the V1J for the DVI, but I'd love some insight on the difference between VGA and DVI picture quality. Google hasn't been helpful in the decision, so I'm counting on forum readers' experiences. For any help I'd be grateful! I'll be connecting to a 32"/37" LCD television, which would probably amplify the differences, but does it get to noticeable point without having them side by side?

    Also, there's this elusive thing called S/PDIF, which nobody seems certain about. Searching the forum I found this interesting information:

    I was planning on connecting the laptop to a 5.1-able amp. I'd appreciate if someone would clear it to me, if I'd really be able to connect the two with a mini-TOSLINK to TOSLINK cable (I'm assuming the laptops in question have the same onboard sound). The link above was a big surprise, since it's the first place I've found saying that laptops actually have connectors that double both as an analog stereo out and an optical (!!!) S/PDIF out.

    Thanks a bunch!

    Without much info(Well, to N.A anyways) about the V1j, its hard to say. The W3 has been looked all over, disected and criticized, so we know it pretty well, unlike the V1.

    I think the DVI out will be important for you when hooking up the big-screen. For my Dell 20.1" monitor the DVI is crisp and clear while the VGA is blurry.

    One consideration I have is usually the resolution of the laptop monitor. I couldn't go back to W3 resolution after experiencing full WSXGA+.

    if i could have bought the v1j for less than the w3j, i would have..there's your answer..mostly for the dvi..since they both share mod bay..it also has a bigger screen
