I'm trying a new system to get some opinions. Maybe with the poll, the thread will stay a bit on track (and not become a discussion about :noisyfan: or something like that)
Now back to the poll. Picture this situation:

You have enough money to buy all the systems, but you don't just want to throw your savings away. You need your laptop for stationary use, yet on two different locations. You like good, modern, contemporary design. Performance won't be a problem in the near future, but maybe you should think ahead. Asus is the only laptop manufacturer in the world and has only 4 models you can choose from.
    Now pick one! :p
You don't have to give the motives for your choice. If you do, do it in a summarized way (not as long and boring as my post here :))

BTW: the V6Va doesn't have an IPS screen (unless the dutch guys here can confirm laptops4u has IPS units)

It's a real shame when people can't pick their own laptop.... you'd think it'd be a rather personal choice..... but when I see these polls, it just starts to frustrate me..... only because I know how the "average" person sees these posts..... because they call us and say "what the heck is up with this"...

.. change the heading of your poll from "asus only makes these models from now on" .... I don't like the confusion it'll cause with the normal passerby... And as a suggestion, change the name of your thread to maybe "help me make a decision"... this type of heading may get get more responses than the way you worded it.

I've always been a huge fan of the V6 series... IPS or no IPS, it's one heck of a machine.

um, it depends on what you want?

do you want a Nice 17" screen laptop? then go for the W2J
If you want a Low res but nice specced 15.4" laptop get the A6ja
If you want a high res and nice 15.4" laptop get the m6va
If you don't want Widescreen by all means get eth V6va or WAit for the Lambo.

The trend is moving to Widescreen, with high res screens in both glossy and matte screens.

THis way you make the choice for urself, rather than us making the choice for you.

Also if your going to school and stuff, that would also alter your choices cos you would not want a 17" laptop... but some people would take one lol :D

    All depends on you man,

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

i voted v6va, i like this because of the thinness. Although i don't have one and i don't have any plan to get one, i believe that it is the best one for a 15" Asus laptop.

    Really depends on your priorities:

    Performance/Gaming - A6Ja or W2j (Core Duo and X1600)
Entertainment - W2j (TV tuner, biggest widescreen)
Battery Life - M6Va (Optional secondary bay battery)
Portability - V6Va (Smallest and lightest)

Voted for V6V for it's best performance to size ratio. And I would choose it over the Z70 anyday. No questions asked. I used to own a M6 (Z70). Although some people said it has an appealing look. I can't convince myself to that after I saw it in real life. But the V6V (although I never saw one in real life). It looks a whole lot better than the Z70. And I believe that it should be many times better built than a Z70 if the current Z70 was of the same quality as my M6.

    Hey Justin,

I'm sorry if this post is an inconvenience for you (with people not getting it and asking you if it's true).
As for the decisionmaking. First of all it's not easy making a decision based on just specs and photos on the internet (buying online). If you work with these machines all day long, then it's easy to make the right decision. I've regretted some impulsive purchases (is this correct english?) in the past, so now I'm investigating thouroughly. And who can help me better then people who own the product. When I'll buy this laptop, I will help others with lots of pleasure. It's just the way it has to be in these days of online stores.
This post was just a way of getting opinions, not a way to let the forum members take my decisions. And so far it has worked great

Everyone near me (IRL) say's "Just buy that ******* laptop and stop bothering me with it"

So, by the end of the week, i'll announce my decision and will stop bothering you with with my big problems (everything is relative)

Right, that's undertandable... and first off, there's no reason to apoligize..

The point is, one person' "right" system, isn't yours... and believe it or not, the people who complain the most about a system are the same ones who try to pin the decision on what everyone else said. I honestly have heard that just about once on every system for one reason or another (haven't heard it on the V6va, but that's it)...

Your point about everyone where you live saying to get this or that is the same thing you're going to get here, just a different make and model. The "key" to making the right choice is taking the specs and photos into consideration and then read through posts that already exist to get the rest of your information and ask questions when needed.... trolling the old posts will usually lead to a better understanding of the models you may be interested in. Call me crazy, but older posts already have tons of answers to them and often you can see all the good and bad about a certain model or a question or problem asked about..... Because, the people who are truely happy and "normal", are really already back to their day jobs and don't post on the forum anymore. So, what you're going to get are responses from people who may one day purchase a certain model.... or maybe just have... but the only good way to know what's right for you and what's really good is to just look at what's already there..

If it doesn't make sense, try it first.... I could almost prepopulate the posts that people will eventually make here... it's really that predictible and will be a waste for you... you may come out of it with a notebook you like, but honestly it's hard to find an Asus notebook that isn't great... so that's not an accomplishment by itself. You need to find THE one for you. That means that you are first and foremost the most important part of the equation and that means you need to pick something first and then maybe look or ask for comparisons or positives and negatives from there..... but you need a solid backing of the specs, features, configuration and look of the machine beforehand.

    Good Luck!

**** Justin, don't you get some sleep? talk about commitment

Been trolling the posts already, and they proved very usefull. But the more you know, the more you have to base your decision on and it only gets harder.
So I just have to take that final leap of faith and trust my instinct.

    Thanks for the help already

I'd say Z70Va or V6Va, just pick which one you thin LOOKS better and there you have it. hahaha

Supposedly the V6Va has a better screen, so I've gotta say the V6Va.

One thing that kinda bugs me is whether or not the heat is an issue or not.

Coriolis said it isn't much of an issue, but I'm sure it's warmer than my Z70Va, and this baby is pretty darn good with the palm rest heat, but any warmer than this and I wouldn't like it. I'm sure the V6Va gets quite a bit warmer on the palmrest because of its thin design and its brushed aluminum palmrest.

Coriolis any comments on this? Compare it directly to the Z70Va since you've had both.

I am planning to go for the W2J, as I hate notebooks with 15(.4) '' screens. Maybe I should buy a pair of glasses besides a new notebook :D

I feel blinded reading all of these sites re ASUS...I'm trying to figure out the build materials on each of these machines. What is the Z70va build quality and what are the materials? Thanks...oh...and if anyone knows where there's a reliable compendium of ASUS's build materials/model, I would be ever grateful. Thanks in advance!

Umma, Whitey, I know you're new and all, but haven't you read any reviews on the M6 series over the past 3 years?

It's carbon fibre. Solid as hell, when it's put together properly and not creaking.

    Cheers,
    Mike

W2J with its 2.0 dual core, 17" screen, powerful video card and a body to die for :D all the way, why go with older technology like X700 in the older systems.

If a slightly bigger lappy is your thing the W2J will be the ultimate machine. I thought about the V6va with its IPS (at least in USA & Canada). If you are not going to travel with it, no point in getting something like V6Va. It will run hot unless you turn down its power (then what is the point) . I feel x1600 video card is minimum these days for great game play (and it is nice to have that 17inch screen for that same reason) especially if you want to play the newest games in 1 year. Going to X700 video card at this point is like taking a step backwords in my mind.

    Just my 2 cents :)
