Beingthe Asus forum maybe its a silly question but what are people thinkin out there? Asus comes highly recommended by friends "in the know" . .

I am looking for a comparable Asus sytem to what Dell offers . .

    Which Dell model?

For 17" monsters and the 12" 700m , you can't beat the price. But for the rest, ASUS will beat them down.

The w2v offers far more reliability and everything else but at a price, as does the w5a, z33a, etc.

The only thing that would compare to the 9300 would be the W2. The W2 blows away the competition with all it's features, size and weight, but it's also very pricey. You can't configure it down to meet your needs and price. So I would look at this through pricing- the Dell is a much better buy. Even though the Dell 9300 is a giant, heavy monster of a computer, it'll save you a lot of dough. You can buy 2 Dells for the price of the W2.

If you drop your screeen size requirement to 15.4 though, that'll open up a world of more choices. The Z71V, Z70V, Z70V (refresh), are all stellar machines for the price. But if your intent on the 17" the w2v is the way to go if you can afford it.

actually I am not married to the 17" - in fact from further research it seems to me that for the price . .the Z71V is the better buy in terms of price/power/etc . . so I am now leaning towards the Asus
