My original order had a 8xDVD Dual Layer Burner 9.4GB)

When my laptop went in for repairs (twice) the tech person the first time made a mess of it. The second time they repaired the laptop but with cheap replacements.

The DVD player that is in there now is a DVD+RW RW8160. It is not playing a lot of DVDs.

    What happened?

I have an email in to complain about this. I haven't yet heard back but I want as much info as possible to demand my rights.

I am sooo upset with ASUS. I can't believe they did this to me. There's been other things they did I reported on another thread.

Did they swap out my DVD player with an inferior one? (they claimed my original DVD player needed to be replaced.)

As a general proposition we try to keep the profanities to a minimum and don't like it when when peoples bypass the language filter.

If you don't know which drive you had before, it's hard to say if the new one is worse, but none of the drives are all that different these days. It's not working, that's enough of a reason to take it with the warranty provider.

Sorry -- at other sites what I did by putting asteriks for vowels is considered acceptable. I won't do it again here. My apologies. I will edit it out. EDIT: You beat me to it :)

I was hoping that thinfo on the invoice and on the device manager was enough. Is there somewhere else I can look to get better info re: drive?

The Ricoh RW8160 is a 8x DVD+/-RW drive with dual layer burning capabilities, so based off of your provided information, no, it is not inferior.

Like ZaZ said, most DVD drives these days are completely interchangeable, and there isn't one that's "better" than another.

Thank you very much for that info.... It is comforting that at least this part of ASUS's service this time was not shady.

It went from a Dual Layer Burner to a normal DVD burner. Wouldn't that be inferior since now there's not the same burning capabilities

Was the sheesh directed at me? If so sorry for offending you if I did. Either way you should take this up with the Asus repair people. They owe you a dual layer drive

No, of course the sheesh was not directed at you... you were very helpful.

The sheesh was directed at ASUS.... I am so fed up with them. See my other thread...

I've never heard of a dvd burner that only does single layer.
