I just bought the Asus G1s and I am trying to see if I got a good deal.
It has Intel T7500 2.2 GHz, 800MHz FSB, 4MB L2 Cache, 2gb memory, 160gb 5400rpm hard drive, nVidia Geforce 8600M GT for $750. There is no warranty.![]()
Did I get a good deal? How much do they go for at the moment?
I would appreciate the reply. Thank you fellows!

I would say not... because of the current nVidia fiasco we can't be sure that the 8600M GT's in our G1S's are going to survive long.
Also you have inherited the heat problems associated with the G1S... If you can return it I would do so...
Don't take my word for it though, do some research on this forum. -

Dang it, I guess I shouldn't have rushed. I can't return it. I was planing to keep this laptop as much as possible since I am going to college now. I think I am gonna have to either sell it on ebay(I might even make profit) or take my chances and keep it. What do you guys think? Shall I sell it?

$750 seems like a good price, firstly I would guess that the reason it was cheap was because the previous owner was trying to jump ship and recoup some losses before anything really "bad" happened.
I would stress the laptop a bit and see what kind of load temps that the CPU and GPU have. Test the RAM for errors etc... If everything seems fine then it really is up to you whether you want to take the risk of keeping it or take the risk of reselling it. -
The first thing to look for is the GPU temperature during gaming. If it gets very high (above 90-100 deg C) then there are better chances that it will get damaged in the long run due to heat. (Actually what damages it is oscillations of temperature, high-low-high-low)
If the temperatures are low, then I don't think you need to worry that much.
So, like Negz says, do a bit of testing, don't rush getting rid of it perhaps at a loss of money (and certainly at a loss of time). -
Thanks for the reply guys, I appreciate it. What is the best program out there to do all the testing you guys mentioned? If I decided I am going to keep it and want to upgrade the ram to 4gb(I know it will only recognize 3), which is better 667mhz or 800mhz having in mind that I might oc it? Or will it even make a difference?
Thanks again! -

There should be a bios update to fix the nvidia issue soon I would think, plus you can always take matters into your own hands and invest in a cooling pad that will surely help.
Price seems just a tad high for what it is, I mean I just sold my C90S for $900 and it has a year of warranty left, bigger hdd, faster cpu ect. However you didn't totally get riped of so don't beat yourself up over it. -
i bought my G1S for 500 on ebay. Since it doesnt come with an warranty i did all the mods. Then opened it up and reapplied thermal paste. I also upgraded to a t9300 cpu. My numbers are CPU 82c GPU 85c max.

I bought my G1S-A1 for Christmas for $1350... I beat you all on the Sucker Scale
However, I haven't noticed any heat problems whatsoever with a Zalman NC2000B notebook cooler, positioned such that the fan grate blows on the upper half of the keyboard and the LED and extra-button-panel. The keys don't get hot at all, whereas when I first got the laptop I couldn't use it after hours of leaving it on... the keys got too hot!
Since you saved a lot on the G1S (it's still going for $1000 where I live), look into buying a few useful accessories, like the Zalman. -
Christmas was more than half a year ago, however, you need to take that into account. Computers get obsolete almost as fast as perishable food, these days

Again I urge you to get a cooling pad the G1S is known to be one of the hotter running machines.
Also the whole Nvidia fiasco was blown way out of proportion. You did not see peoples card dying left and right before it was brought up and you still don't now. They simply found that the cards were running hotter than they should be and it could cut into the life time of the product. Since just like what EBE said tho. That could mean 4 years instead of 5 and by that time you would have replaced it with a new product. -
I suggest memtest86+ for the memory.
CPU-Z to monitor your CPU. RMClock gives nicer looking graphs but its readings are not always as accurate with recent chipsets (Santa Rosa and lateR).
GPU-Z to monitor your GPU. RivaTuner gives nicer graphs, but its readings are not always as accurate with recent GPUs. Oh what a beautiful symmetry
Orthos Prime to stress your CPU
3DMark06 to stress your GPU, although it's not really designed for that. You can google for a better alternative.
Check your HDD: see my "Is my HDD going bad" question in the Tips and Tricks linked from my signature. You can also add HDtune to those tests.
I think that about covers it. -
Thanks for the reply guys!
What do you think about upgrading the ram though? 4GB 800MHz or 677MHz? Will it make a difference? -

If you get the 800mhz stuff it will only run at 667 so no reason to upgrade. -
I got mine for $800 including 3 year warranty
Did I get a good deal on my G1S?
