Ok Ive been reading these forums for a month now and decided to register an account, so here I am YAH!! :p Anyways Ive been driving myself nuts in picking out a good notebook for the last few months and have decided to go with Asus’s line of the G1 or G2 series. Im leaning for the G2 because of the real estate offered, and Im not to concerned about portability (in relation with the size of the G2 not the issue of having to drag it with me) and battery life. Now that the G2s-B1 is out with the 200GB 7200 HD, Intel TurboRAM (which wont really be to efficient till SP1 for Vista is released :D HOPEFULLY!!), and just a fraction faster T7700 for about $2100 bucks I think Ive got my eyes set on it for sure. But reading the forum Ive heard the C90, Sager and a few other models are just as good, but a lot of you guys have been screaming for the Asus G series, and Im pulling out my hair on what to do. Ive got about 2200 bucks or so Ive been saving to spend on. Also has anyone heard of Asus putting the 8700GT in the G series? Ill be deploying in a few months and cant wait till end of DEC/JAN. And how well will Crysis run off the 8600GT? I think it should do well running Med maybe High settings. Heres the system requirements for it:

    Crysis System Requirements:
    Minimum System Requirements

OS - Windows XP or Windows Vista
Processor - 2.8 GHz or faster (XP) or 3.2 GHz or faster* (Vista)
Memory - 1.0 GB RAM (XP) or 1.5 GB RAM (Vista)
Video Card -NVIDIA GeForce 6800GT 256 MB / ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (X800 Pro for Vista)
Hard Drive - 12GB Free Space

    Recommended System Requirements
OS - Windows XP / Vista
    Processor - Intel Core 2 DUO @ 2.2GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+
    Memory - 2.0 GB RAM
GPU - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS/640 or similar

I haven’t owned a laptop in years and my current Rig at home is good, but no longer for gaming. Currently it’s a AMD 2300XP, 1.5gb RAM, ATI 9800 Pro, MSI-KT6 Delta Mobo, and plenty of HD space.

The 8600GT really isn't that fast. Its good enough for playing most current games, but even TF2 gives the card a lot of work. Crysis will run, but I really don't think you'll be running any high settings, maybe not even medium.

Also consider screen resolution, its definitely not going to run well if you get the 1920x1200 screen resolution.

You may want to get the G1 for the lower screen resolution. I think you can get it in 1200x800 and 1680x1050.

OK so what cards should I be looking at to play with? My wish list so far is:

    Bioshock
    Assassins Creed
    TF2
    Crysis

Pretty demanding list for a GPU....plus whats the point of playing a game like Crysis if ya cant run it on least med if not high...I do understand its a mobile platform, just dont wanna shell out $3000+ for a system that will handle it. Do plan on building another rig as soon as I get back from deployment to handle those games though.

Why pull your hair out over these 2 get a C90 :p

Plays bioshock and TF2 with all detials maxed, I just dont have the resolution maxed. I use 1280x800 wich is inconcievably different to they eyes on a 15" screen vs 1680x1050

The 17" chassis of the G2 could have supported a much more powerful video card. I'd wait till the 8800 card comes out and buy a 17" sager/clevo (which happens to be lighter and cheaper, too) if you want a 17" notebook, alternatively, if you had to pick between the G1 and the G2, I'd go with G1.
