I've narrowed my search for a laptop down even narrower now and am wondering what if any differences are there between the following machines. First the A6Ne w/pentium 1.6ghz from Newegg, and the ACIA6U PROPortable A6U AMD Turion Notebook from Proportable
    1. AMD® Mobile 64 CPU : Athlon® 64 2800+
    2. DDR333 so-Dimm : 512 ddr333 (512mb x 1) - Corsair
    3. Hard Drives 2.5" ATA100 : Hitachi Travelstar 40GB 5400 RPM w/ 8MB Buffer
    4. Optical Drive : Combo Drive (DVD/CD-RW) -Standard
    5. Internal Wireless Card : Intel PRO/2200 Wireless 802.11b/g MiniPCI
    6. Operating Systems : Microsoft Windows XP Professional w/ SP2 -Standard
    7. Warranties : 3 years parts & labor w 1 way paid shipping

From what I can tell, they are almost identical, just barely different in terms of a few specs, but am wondering if I'm missing anything. They seem to have the same 8 cell battery, same size screen, etc. The A6Ne from neweggis 1200 without a 3yr warranty and the A6U from proportable is 1200 but with a 3yr warranty after I build it to almost the exact same specs as the A6Ne. So is the laptop from proportable the best deal. It seems like it to me since they are the same price and same specs but comes with a 3yr warranty as well. But since I don't know everything about cpu's I'm thinking I might be missing something, but maybe not. Let me know as I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on one of these amazing laptops. I know this sounds silly to some of you, but just bear with me. Thanks

A6ne - is an intel centrino system
A6u - is an amd turion system

We used to have the A6ne, but only for a short time. It was a model Asus imported for the Canadian market and no one bought them...... so they brought them down here and asked each dealer to take a handful of them.... Once we sold out of them, we didn't get any more back in. When comparing the A6u to the A6ne, they were about the same performance wise...... I guess it's a matter of being an intel or amd person....... They're both at the bottom of barrel so to speak of what we have.. but where I lapse... a lot.. is that both are still very good computers and I'm just desensitized to everything but the top of the line anymore..

I would say this though.. if you were to get an A6u, that baseline configuration is all I'd get........ some people would max them out and I just think if you have the money to spend, get something else..... but that's a cool set up...... as long as this is a unit mainly used for internet, email, word processing...... with maybe the mix of some cpu intensive programs.... it's a good set up.

Technically the A6Ne is an ensemble model... theoretically, it should be of a (very slightly) higher build quality than the A6U... although really, they're about the same.

As Justin has pointed out... it's really your preference of processor. In my opinion, the Intel Pentium-M is still sufficiently better than the AMD Turion... so it's the better choice out of your two.

Go for the A6Ne if you have to choose one of them ;)

We told Asus not to bring in the A6ne as an ensemble because it would bring their brand down..... basically though, it's all last years technology.

I will give the AMD credit through because it is 64bit and in terms of processing power it's at least right there with a 1.6 400mhz dothan... (1.7 multiplier makes it equal to about a 2.72ghz P4) .......... Obviously a 2800+ AMD is named as such because it is equal to or better than a 2.8ghz P4.........

Put each model down on a piece of paper and pick out of a hat.

But the A6Ne will probably have slightly better battery life... that older Dothan platform sure rocked in terms of battery life ;)

Ahh... the mobile athlon 64 is decent... but the turion 64 is much better....... but at the baseline levels we're talking between the two notebooks it's going to be negligible and obviously the turion cpus are much MUCH more money and start at a higher clock speed anyway...... 3 hours out of either of these notebooks would be good.
