Is there much of a difference between the W3V and the W3J casing, is it possible to basically for me to pick up a w3j motheboard and put it into a W3V casing?

No. I have researched this and the casing from the W3J is different due to the X1600's thermal cooler. The backside CPU/RAM door is very different, you will need to replace both top side and bottom side case to do the conversion to say the least.
