I just noticed something interesting. There has been a lot of talk lately about the A8J, which is good, but now the A8Js term has been popping up. It appears that the A8J and A8Js names have been used interchangably, but supposedly that's not actually the case.

If you select Notebooks and the A8 series you will actually see that there are separate entries for the A8J and A8Js. (There is also a A8Jnc. How much longer can these names get?) The question is, what is the difference between the A8J and the A8Js. I was going to suggest that the A8J, which I believe is what most of the reviews have used, uses the 1440x900 screen while the A8Js uses a 1280x800 one, but the official A8Js website said that it uses a 1440x900 screen too.

Perhaps it'll be the other way then? I also noticed that the A8Js has a lot more support downloads including older ones while I thought the A8J showed up first. It's definitely an interesting conundrum.

I think a8j stands for the merom machine and encompasses the p and s in the market where it is for sale as both, ie the far east.

I think the a8j is only for sale in the far east. I think its going to come in many different configurations as far as screen, cpu etc. I think when the a8js hits na it will have just one configuration just like the a8jm.

A lot of the people there where it is for sale actually call it the a8js with the x1700.

I THINK in the markets where its just one or the other gpu, they use the 4th letter.

In this case, p stands for the updated ati card and the merom. Yet in the NA version of the w3jp upcoming aparently the p stands for just the merom.

The naming initials are obviously not consistent with eachother...

Well, the A8Js has a better geforce go7700 and Core 2 Duo as opposed to the Core duo 7600 in the A8jm, the mobility x1600 in the A8Ja and the go7300 in the A8Jc. Only drawback to the A8Js is the less battery life. They all have the 14" widescreens and the same chassis. Hope this helps.

AAlso, the A8Js has the 1440x990 screen dont worry about that. Same comp, screen, different processor, more ram, better HDD and better vid card. Also, the A8 is the series, the J is the model and the c,j,m,s is the config.

What I mean is not between the various A8 series models or the various A8J series models. I mean there is actually an A8J with nothing after it model and a A8Js model. It just unclear what the difference between those two are since they both appear to be Merom with Go 7700.

Well, it usually does have something after it. It might be a typo. They both look the same, and if they have the same specs, then they must be the same

A8Js is the plural form of A8J.

    I hope this helps.

the first two values are to denote the series of notebooks (A8, W3, W5)
If followed by a J, that is in indication of dedicated graphics. So in this case, A8J ---- simply means A8 series notebook, with dedicated graphics. There should be athread that discusses how Asus names their laptops with some logic behind it.

gusto: The J actually symbolizes Processor AND Dedicated Graphics.... eg.. the A8T is a Turion with dedicated graphics model....
