I suppose it's somewhat my fault for not doublechecking every tiny little detail, but I'm only now coming to realize that the G2S I received from Best Buy isn't the same as the G2S as featured everywhere else, including the official ASUS site, which is where I did most of my spec-reading. However, this laptop was a graduation gift that I had put off receiving for three years or so until I actually needed it, and my folks aren't too fond of internet shopping, so I thought it would be wise to order from somewhere trustworthy like Best Buy. Hah.

I noticed that it came without the mouse or backpack, but I thought maybe those were optional components that just didn't get ordered. I just recently noticed that it also doesn't come with the remote, the DVI -> SVideo/RCA adapter, the TV tuner/antenna, or the infrared receiver. I honestly have spent most of my time with it trying to get Windows XP to work on it instead of Vista, and having strange driver related issues. Well, now I'm beginning to think the hardware's different, and that worries me.

Here's what I know is different so far:
The Warranty -- Not too worried, I take very good care of my stuff.
nVidia GeForce GM8600 Go GT -- Best buy lists that on their site as what the computer comes with, but as far as I can tell there's no such thing as a GM8600 Go GT. Does anybody know what's actually included there?
2 RAM Ports instead of 4 -- This one bothers me, but I'll tolerate it if it's the ~only~ major difference.

However, since I've been having trouble with the proper audio drivers, I'm worried that Best Buy may've cut even more corners. Does anyone know anything more about the G2S-X1? I'm hoping to return it, but the person who purchased it is out of state right now and I'm not sure how facilitating Best Buy will be about this issue, regardless. Still, if the only true hardware difference is the RAM, then I suppose I can settle for merely warning my friends against major purchases from Best Buy. Any information would be appreciated, and speedy information doubly so, for time is of the essence.

Yea, BB doesn't have the 'extra freebies' that ASUS has on their notebooks, which they(BB) requested so they could tempt customers to buy THEIR accessories, THEIR warranty plans and THEIR peripherals for more.

The GPU is the same, I'm pretty sure. As for RAM ports, notebooks all have 2 ports, no more, sometimes less :p

I think you have fifteen days to return it, so you may want to get on that. as far as the ram slots, I don't think any G2s' have more than two slots, and the a1 has 2gb of ram. mine did not come with a ir reciever or remote or tv tunner, but I did not order those items anyway. If its gonna bother you then try and return it and purchase from xoticpc or one of the other online vendors

Ah, I guess I misinterpreted the 2GB - Non-expandable part of Best Buy's description. If the hardware's all the same, then I'm just a little peeved at bein' short replaceable goodies instead of fundamental necessities. I must admit, I was a little panicked when I found out the Best Buy offered a different version than I was expecting, but if the only differences in the models are the accessories, then I'm glad it wasn't well-founded panic.
