Hi, I'm in the market for a new labtop, and ASUS's W3J and A8J look like the best fit for me.
But can someone tell me what are the differences between these 2 laptops?
    How much do they weight?

    Thanks a lot!

I always forget something but someone will correct me...

A8j= lower price, webcam, dvi, nvidia
w3j= blue tooth, aesthetics, may be built a little more solid, ati

Both weigh in roughly at 5.5 lbs. The w3 has an optional optical drawer that can lower it to around 5 but then you don't have anything to read cd/dvd's etc...

There is tons of info on these boards about each...tons....

Oh yeah and you can't get the a8j if you're in America.

Imho, the A8Jm looks like a better buy, but if the brushed aluminium/magensium lid of the W3J appeals to you, go for that instead. Looks are over-rated, you'll get bored of how your laptop looks in a week anyhow.

Pretty much summed it up, they, in performance are very similiar, the only difference is what one offers that the other doesn't, as listed as above.

Another thing is the W3j has an 8 cell battery, while the A8j has a 6 cell. Battery life is quite similar, but I think the W3j wins.

yeah.. the W3J probably only wins if you make use of the swappable bays to make use of 2 batteries or 2 HD.. other than that, A8Jm has more USB ports, DVI, webcam.

Also, I mentioned this in another thread... in all other versions except North America, the A8J's come with BT built in, so I don't think it can be considered a disadvantage if you're buying outside NA.

I will second that I think the a8j is the better buy. You simply get more for your buck and it has some features (DVI, webcam) that I wish my w3j had. But as far as the aesthetic appeal wearing off. I'm not sure when and if that may happen but I'm still damn impressed with the way my w3j looks. Impressiveness aside, I don't care much about the aesthetic of my notebook. Yeah its cool to carry around a really pretty laptop and get people to notice it and what not. But if the a8jm was available in the states and announced before I put the pre-order in for my w3, I probably would have gotten it. That said, I have absolutely no qualms about my w3, I've been nothing but impressed with it.

    So A8J it is!
I'll try if I can get it oversea this summer :)
    If not, then W3J!

    Honestly...two things to consider.

Do you (or do you think you will) need the different/better features with A8jm and what is your budget like? If you won't use them, it won't matter if you have them.

The A8jm is a better "value" and I can't say that I've ever used one, but the W3j is just an incredible machine and a good value in my opinion. The build materials are just incredible...the palm rest is super smooth, the brushed aluminum looks awesome and the overall structural integrity is rock solid.

I find that the W3J's palm rests warm up more uneven than the A8Jm, possibly due to just a single heat vent at the bottom of the W3J versus 4 under the A8Jm. The ATI card in the W3J could factor in on that as well.

I think its probably because of the hdd under the palm rest not the vent. Never seen the a8j but all the new systems with dual core have almost identical cooling fans and i would say are equally cooled.
