The temperature shown in SpeedFan is different to Notebook Hardware Control.

At the same time the two programs are showing the following temps...

    Speed fan is showing Temp1: 43C, Core 0: 36C Core 1: 36C

NHC is showing CPU Temp: 49C

Why are they different? And what is the difference between Temp1 and Core 1 & 2?

The only temp that is the same is the HD.

Does anyone know of a program that will show fan speed RPM?

NHC shows fanspeed, if you have the correct config file.

My guess is that NHC is showing the overall Temp, while SpeedFan is reading the temp (via some circuitry on the processor) on three different parts of the processor. The gap is a bit larger than I would have expected, but I wouldn't worry about it.

Core 1 and Core 2 temps should be self explanatory. For more information about "Temp1" read the notes section here.

I mean RPM...is that what you mean Nikie?

I am using just now and F3jp ACPI config file, but it only shows what temp FanSpeed 1 or 2 (so on) will be activated.

I guessed what Core 1 and 2 was :) Thanks for the link...

I am trying to figure out what is happeing... When I run a sandra burn test the NHC CPU temp goes up to about 73C

I can't seem to get the fan to sound high even when editing the ACPI file.

What is it you are trying to do? Can't you just let the computer take care of itself?

Core Temp is showing Core 0: 54C Core 1: 54C

CalebSchmerge... I want to know if it is working properly and I want to be able control fan speed when I need it to be quiet... and I am a person who wants to know what is happeing and how it works. E.G... above...why different temperatures in 3 different programs...who can you believe? sorry :)

i would think that 39c for a laptop is too low.... i think NHC and Core Temp in this case are more accurate.......

you could also try intel TAT (thermal analysis tool)........i'm not sure how it works with laptops though,,,

also, ASUS has a utility, i forgot what the name is, maybe some of the other guys could way in on this one,,

If youre using Windows XP, ASUS NB Probe will give you the diagnostic temperature and fan information youre looking for. If you're running Vista, don't bother; the vista version only tells you the status is "normal" without specific temperatures

Do you possibly know a way to get the Vista NB Probe to show me the exact measured values instead of catergories like "normal", "100%" or so? If not, do you have any other suggestion for a good, free hardware monitoring application?
