I own a F3SA-A1 and recently restored Windows Vista. Then I went to the ASUS website to find updated versions of the ASUS software and drivers my notebook requires. Then I dug around and found newer versions of the same applications and drivers (e.g. LifeFrame 2 for my F3SA, but LifeFrame 3 for M51 series notebooks) listed for other models.
Do you think I can safely install the more up-to-date applications and drivers on my notebook even though the files are listed in connection with newer models?

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
I thought I heard somewhere that the F3 is one of the soon-to-be discontinued models (I could be mistaken, however); if so, Asus will stop updating the drivers and software under that model's section of their website as the unit is phased out of production.
Sometimes new software and drivers work on older/other Asus models, sometimes not. If you don't know how to go back and remove or back install the software you're playing with should something go wrong, you should probably stick with what you've got..... if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Ahhh... that's the beauty of having a newly restored notebook. I can play with this for a while to see if the newer drivers and applications work with this "older" hardware without any risk. Personally, I think a lot of the hardware is the same because the drivers (names and version numbers) are the same.

Just a quick update... I searched through the ASUS FTP site and downloaded every driver and application with the same name as the drivers and applications I use on my F3SA-A1. In many cases, there were more up-to-date downloads available on the FTP site than the ASUS Downloads site lists for my model. After installing all of these updates, my notebook is still running smooth with no problems.
Also, I went to the Intel website for the latest Turbo Memory Console (the Intel Matrix Storage Manager update in included in this download), the Realtek website for the latest audio driver, and the ATI website for the latest display driver (modded with Mobility Modder). All of these updates installed without any problems -- honestly, I think ASUS just repackages the Intel and Realtek updates with an ASUS name on a .zip file.
ASUS may discontinue this notebook, but important driver updates will still be available. Those updates just may not be listed where one would hope to find them.
