    Hi there.
This is a strange problem that i have here with direct console.
When i start up the computer it gives me this error:
then direct console won't work and when i go to programs menu and run direct console i get the same error message and then i go to "C:\Program Files\ASUS\ASUS Direct Console" and found this file "MSNHOOK.DLL_2007.10.04.13.21.55" so i think i need to rename it and it work as it to be but after some hours i shutdown the computer and then when i power it up again i found that the file was renamed again and i get the same error and it happens now for 10 days.
there's nothing in Google seem to help.
    Thanks

Have you tried reinstalling the program?

Or just going ahead without it... I don't think it's a very essential program, is it?

It's important it's used to turn on and off the side lights.
I install version 1.4 and 1.3 and reinstall them bunch of times.

Have you got the synaptics touchpad drivers installed? That's what enables the touchpad light.

Have you tried installing Direct Console 1.5?

I'm also dealing with this problem. I think since I got the latest update for my anti-virus, the program freaks out saying there's a trojan horse. I seriously doubt there's a trojan horse on the file.

I had exactly the same problem. Simple fix is to add the path C:\Program Files\ASUS\ASUS Direct Console to your anti virus's exception list.

    Have fun!

NOTE: This program will not run any other way.

P.S. I would still like the like for 1.5 please.

    Hi guys

I got the same problem and i ave fixed it also :)
this is what I did, dont know if you need this bit but. I installed V1.5
and if ur running AVG 8.0 like myself this is how I fix it
Open AVG>TOOLS>ADVANCED SETTINGS> then click on Exceptions then
    add path....I.E C:\program Files\ASUS\ASUS Direct console....then apply
restart the lappy and all is well again :)

Okay, I got it. Thank you very much.

For those on version 8 of AVG, under the Advanced Settings, Exceptions is under the "Resident Shield" section. Originally, I thought it was under "PUP Exceptions", but I was wrong. Anyway, I can use the Direct Console again. :D

I'm having the same problem. I can't find V1.5 for download either. This problem started with the latest update from AVG.

Have you even read what we have all said?

You don't need V1.5, just put the entire Direct Console Folder it on AVG's Exception list.

Is there any other way to solve the problem?

Was having this problem as well. I added The Direct Console folder as an exception, and it was fine for a couple days. It's doing it again, now, though.

Oh well, don't really ever use DC, and if I need it I can just exit AVG for a moment.

ok this is getting on my nerves now, day after day when i shutdown my laptop, AVG secretly deletes the msnhook.dll file without any notice even though it is in my exceptions list.

after every boot, i find myself having to reinstall direct console again

I was having the same problem, I would have to go into AVG virus vault and restore the MSNHOOK.DLL file, then it would work, until the next day. What I found has worked so far (fingers crossed) was go into AVG advance settings, select the PUP Exceptions, and add the path to the LCMP.exe and the MSNHOOK.DLL I haven't had any problems since doing that.

    :O

Everyone, laptop has just come up with the solution, however you still need to add it to the anti virus exceptions as well as PUP exceptions.

    Great work laptop :)
