The little reading motor in my BD-RE in my ASUS N55SF laptop always reacts whenever I open iTunes. Like iTunes will be minimized and I will open it and the drive will make a noise to try to make sure that there is no disc inside.
I think it does the same when I put in a USB flashdrive
It is not a major problem, but it is an annoyance. I think if I go in Device Manager and I disable the drive the problem goes away, but I think that is too drastic a fix.
I have a video of the noise it makes. I will post it soon.
>50% of the time when I open iTunes (or bring up the window), the disc drive makes a click sound. It does the same thing whenever I plug in a USB device or an SD card.

CD tray activates when I open iTunes - YouTube -
Hey man I feel your pain. I went from over 50GB in itunes, to not being able to use itunes because of the SAME PROBLEM.
I use winamp now, but it still clicks every time i launch the application.
it also clicks when i open WMP, and other apps.
This seems to be happening to only a few notebook users, from a broad range of PC manufacturers to even Mac owners! It seems to be only a problem with Mats.h.i.t.a cd rom drives, but if yours is not mats.h.i.t.a than I could stand corrected.
i have an asus k53sv, core i7. I have tried everything: from asking microsoft support, to forums. Yes, I have tried the Upperfilters registry edit, and it does not work.
The only suggestion I have is :
1. try to reformat, and reinstall windows. once i save all my files to an external hard drive, im going to do this and PRAY it works.
2. buy a new cd rom drive, and pay someone to, or install it yourself (not too hard.) ive considered doing this but im broke.
3. sell your laptop and get a new one
i dont recommend sending to manufacturer under warranty, they will mess it up even more.
good luck man!
BTW, try to fix this soon, as I am, and dont use itunes, because every time it clicks, its clicking itself down to death, and its killing your drive much faster than it would die normally.
peace.

I have a Mata BD-RE drive in my machine. I don't use iTunes enough and I do not get by annoyed by it sufficiently to go through any of those three solutions, especially 3. Tell me how reformatting helps the problem. If it works for you, maybe I will try it.
