    Sup guys I'm just wondering why G1s prices went down so abrupt, do they actually die fast. I saw I don't remember if I'm right.. a thread saying G1s died and had lot's of problems. could someone clear that out to me plz. :confused:
    Are they actually affected by the faulty 8xxx from nvidia as well.

    They went down in price because they were phased out by newer models. G1N and now the G50Mv & G70Mv.

    I dont think I have heard any "dying G1S" stories, but yes any laptop with the 8600 card "sufferes" from the nvidia problem but that problem is being very highly over inflated. Plus it has already been fixed in the majority of models with a bios update.

    the BIOS update he's talking about makes the fan run at higher speeds, that's not really much of a fix, haha

    They found a better use for the G1s so the price went down.

    It is now used to boil water and cook food using the GPU core.

    Not only ASUS has these issues - all other brands have.
    Check other forums - Sager is not exception - you will find the same complains
    Check it out on Newegg.com and you will find open boxes all over the board.

    The G1 was Asus' entry into the *budget* gamer's market. As they are getting older the product is dropping in price, esp those earlier versions that are still floating around unsold. Nothing more :).

    According to SEC filing and industry sourced material earlier this month when the news broke, nVidia was going to work with manufacturers to release BIOS updates that would set the thermal threshold for gpu fan and rpm lower in order to address the problem.

    How far this has gotten in practice, and whether Asus has even gotten to that point of coding something yet, is unclear. One could check the driver updates for the G1 series on the Asus website and see if anything's posted.

    The G1S has many problems... I would stay away. Issues include:

    * Grainy Screen
    * When battery is less than 90% CPU downclocks to half speed while charging on AC (this bug has been semi-solved in bios revision 300)
    * 8600M GT stutters after 96C
    * Temps are outrageous

    I own a G1S and the above are some of the problems that have plagued it since it first came out. I think that all 8600M GT's are effected but we can't be sure until nVidia actually admits to it. They seem to be covering up mostly.
