    Hi there

I've got the suspicion that the DVD burner I’ve got is not a dual layer as claimed on the box and by the “interstate retailer” although to be fair on them I haven’t yet brought this up with them.

My V6 has two logos on it, one's a "DVD r/rw" and the other is "RW, rewritable" on it, nothing about being a dual layer. Is this right?

    Cheers

Well that's because there isn't a dual layer super slim drive thats' even made in this wonderful world of ours.....

    So it's an impossibility.

What the V6's drive is... is a 2x Dual FORMAT.... ie: -/+ R/RW ... not just -RW.......

So, I'm sorry to tell you but Asus' box would never say "dual layer", but it might say "dual format". But again, that's something you should have checked out before hand because that's something that's not even physically made yet, so there's no way you could ever have it.... so regardless of what the company might have said... Asus' specs and the fact that they don't even exist sort of over power what they "claimed" ...

It's like buying a system with a 6ghz cpu ... ALMOST - ... I'd say that's wrong, but as long as it wasn't overpriced.. say it was priced at the price of a 3.6ghz cpu... it's just a typo... To back that up, the price of it was normal and a 6ghz cpu isn't even made....

So I'm going to go with typo first....... then I'll go with, whoever you got it from doesn't even know the product...... then if all of that doesn't play out and you paid more for that "dual layer" version... then they're liars and you have a good claim.

    Good luck.

    Thanks,
    Justin

That's true, but it does mean you can burn basically twice as much as a regular blank dvd........

But that's not an excuse if someone tried to deceive them.... But the smallest thing isn't always the "best" but it will always be the most expensive. People pay more for things with less options because they are smaller everyday.... take a mini ipod verses one of the bigger ones... you get 1/4 of the space for the same price.... but it's smaller and therefore attracts more people. It's just the cost to keep producing these smaller things.

    Thanks,
    Justin

It's not like having dual layer capable burner right now is a real advantage anyways. DL media is still at a high premium.

OK Justin thanks for clearing that up, however the box does say "DVD Dual" on it. That I guess can lead to some miss interpretations. Unfortunately this is the second retailer in Oz that has miss lead me, possible due to lack of product knowledge.

The first machine I sent back as it was a M6 without a stand alone graphics card, when I bought it just for that reason.

This on the other hand I can let go as I’m not (obviously) a bit dual DVD layer burning sort of guy. I love my V6; however being miss lead it Still annoying but!

Yeah, "DVD Dual" is INDUSTRY standard for dual format which means + & - R/RW..... "DVD Dual Layer" is standard for a dual layer drive...

It's weird, but there are also "DVD Multi" which means - R & RW .....

    DVD-R is just -r

    Thanks,
