Just tested the A8Js(default configuration) with two PC games, the "Need for Speed 9" and "Oblivion". The performance is great except the rare lags, especially in the NFS9 , since any little lag can be easily noticed during extremely high speed driving. The lag, however occurs randomly, not necessarily in a complex scenario, such as a lot of cars........so I just wonder if it is the problem of 1G memory.....
Btw, what kind of DDR667 RAM the A8Js uses? Do I need to keep in mind anything special when I buy another 1G RAM?

It might be the RAM, it might be your graphics card. It might be other programs running in the back that are slowing down the machine. Might as well try stopping anti-viruses and other constantly running programs, and see if the performance improves.

Is the Indexing Service off? I've had issues with it deciding to index the hard drive at inopportune times and causing game lag. Same with System Restore.
I would use 'End Task' on as many background processes as you can without killing the system to make sure it's not something there before buying more RAM. -
I own one so I should open it up and tell you the ram used
but i was hoping someone else would by now.
asus usually uses a brand called hynix that doesnt sell their own brand name here in the us. -
how do you turn off the indexing service?

Thanks Nrbelex
Are the any pros and cons to having it on or off? -
Indexing Service 'indexes' your drives when the computer is 'idle' to allow for the 'Search' function on the Start Menu to work faster when you use it.
Most people rarely use 'Search', so the benefit of having it on is minimal, and it can decide your computer is 'idle' at inopportune moments, like when playing a game. -
Since I hardly use the search function, i'm going to turn off indexing and see if I can notice the difference.
Thanks for the information.

btw, can I just simply run services.msc command and disable the indexing service instead of checking it for every drive?
stamar: if this brand of RAM cant be found in any shop, then what kind of RAM dealers will provide to those customers ordering 2G?
Can Any one got 2G RAM take a look of your "extra memory"? -
I would assume that if you are buying RAM from different companies it should be fine as long the speed (667) are the same. I remember my old desktop had two diff 512mb ram and it was fine, but that was before dual channel. Crucial, Kingston, Cosair are fine, I hear PNY is good, that one we have on the add banners mushkin and Ocz are fine too. Just adding an extra 1G right?
The one that comes with the stock unit is fine to, no need to replace it. -
From everything I've read, by no means do you need to match brands of RAM. It's a waist of time to search the globe for the brand Asus uses as stock.

the way it works I think is that some of the familiar us brands use this same korean manufacturer.
But I dont know which one.
Rest assured that absolutely NO ram is made in the us.
What it is is that this same brand might be called kingston or ocz or something here in the us I just dont know which. It is one of the major brands or several of them actually. This company, hylix I think its called, is one of the top 5 suppliers certainly. -
I have 2GB of RAM in my desktop. BF2 is the only game which uses more then 1GB in my experience.
-
To gkcomp22: You could solve the problem by killing unused processes, but it might be better in the long run just to add another GB of RAM... -
On my S96j with the x1600, NFS Carbon runs perfect at high settings & stock clocks, so the issue maybe somewhere else like in XP and/or drivers. Sandra benchmarks only show about a 100 point difference in dual channel vs single, so I don't think the issue is there, it maybe that the lag is from using the paging file? Try running msconfig and disable everything that starts up that is not necessary and do the same for services and then try again or even try turning off the paging file and see if NFS runs with 1GB,

Do I need to update to 2G RAM for my A8Js?
