I think you'll have to pay postage for the copy.

Which one did you order? I'm looking at the difference between home premium and business, and I think I would like the home premium edition but my laptop came pre-loaded with pro (w3j). Think they'll let me switch?

    Oh and btw, 64bit? 32bit?

I went with the 32-bit Windows Vista Business. The 64-bit version requires signed drivers (i.e. say goodbye to Omega Drivers and the like) and I don't really care for media-center features. Anything Vista has coming will be bettered by third party software shortly after Vista's release.

Excuse my ignorance... But what are omega drivers and how do they benefit me? XD

    From their site:

These are "unsigned" - they haven't received Microsoft's seal of approval - and in Vista 64-bit, they will be blocked. Some people, myself included, enjoy the flexibility to install any driver I please on my computer and not just what Microsoft tells me to. There are a couple other "features" Microsoft has added to the 64-bit version which I'll look up later which make the 32-bit version more appealing to me, even though I waited so long for a 64-bit processor.

Have i been lied to? I typed in dxdiag and i realized it says on the operating system that i have "Microsoft Windows XP Professional" but newegg said it would come with Media Center Edition as an OS? Is something wrong here or am I just dumb?

What are the advantage of the 64-bit version over the 32-bit version?

If you have 64bit processor (if not it won't install), then in long run it should be faster, but for now there is a possibility that some programs will run slightly slower, and as it was mentioned before there can be drivers problems.

addressing 4gb ram is the main thing

the first real 64 bit only applications are going to be photoshop and 3dmax type applications

Mainly they can cause a lot of system instability. They might marginally improve synthetic benchmark scores as well. That's about it.

I got an email saying that i need to mail an invoice or some other proof of purchase in for them to validate before shipping. I didn't realize that sending in for the upgrade would be so involved.

Not a problem i don't suppose, but id rather not have to. :(

I just E-mailed them the closest thing I had to a receipt... the reply seemed to indicate that was fine. If not I'll contact them in a month or so.

I'm interested in the opposite...I got Media Center edition and I'd like to get either Ultimate or Business. Unfortunately through this site my only option is Home Premium. Can you pick any one or just the "allowed upgrade" for your current OS?
