Hey guys, I've been browsing this forum for a while. I've noticed that ASUS has released the G73. My question is, does the company release high end notebooks like this more than once a a year? The reason I ask is because I have the option of picking up the G73 right now or I can wait till later on this year and pick up a different laptop.

From what I understand the cost to performance ratio can not be beat on this laptop, and I would love to have it. But, I can also wait later and hopefully pick something with better tehcnology, hopefully before September when university begins.

I'm in the same boat Sling and I've opted to get the g73, as buying a BRAND NEW gaming laptop right before school starts might make it more likely to be stolen. Plus the g73 does not look very flashy, decreasing the likeliness of people noticing its amazing components under the hood; how many expensive laptops do not have lights or expensive materials on the outside? Plus if you're a gamer like me, too many good games will come out between now and september to possibly catch up with during the college semester (if your current computer can't play them <---- mine can't). And don't let people tell you you'll get a nice discount on laptops at your college-only the netbook/cheapo laptops are discounted because the gaming community in college has not really been recognized yet (maybe eventually it will be :( ). So yeah, I'd opt for the g73 if I were you. :D

If you're interested in high end similar to the G73 (one of the best 17" laptops to date, in my opinion), I suggest checking out the Bang&Olafsen Asus model shown here ... http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/05/...nd-olufsen-designed-has-a-dual-turntable-tou/

No recent info on it, but its certainly "high end". If you mean power wise, there will also be the Asus G51j versions, the smaller brother of the G73 series. If you're talking style, the Asus Bamboo series will have new models pretty soon, some of which are supposed to be pretty powerful for their size a la the Sony Z series.

If you want to keep waiting for the next big thing you will be waiting forever. Get the g73 now.

Talking about the latest rig. I am curious as to why 70% (guesstimate) of Alienware users upgrade to 920XM CPU?

Isn't it like an extra 1000+ USD for upgrade to that? 820 has L3 cache of 8Mb as well and the core speed isn't that different from 920XM. 820 only cost 500 USD.

It seems that AW users are completely different kettle of fish comparing to the rest of the other brand users.

    Am I missing something there?

Alienware users dread 920's, they cause flickering don't they?

    I pray asus do a w90 rev ;).

always wait until you really need the laptop. By September there will be higher clocked i7s which would be nice. And the price of blueray would have come down so you can probably get a BD writer in the A1 and a reader in the A2 etc. Maybe the standard ram will be 1333mhz as well............And perhaps SSD as standard or the new 1TB 2.5'

but if you look at their signatures, a large percentage opt for 920's. I am just can't see the logic behind that.

I noticed that asus releases new G series notebooks very often. The g73jh is the hottest product at the moment, its cheap and very powerfull. I think if you can wait, you will most likely be rewarded with even more hardware for the same or less money amount. On the other hand, I'm sure if you would get the g73jh you would not regret it.

From all my past experiences, I always jumped the gun to pick it up. But I can tell you know, if it's for college in September please wait!
