I'm looking for a high end notebook, and given the investment, would like to keep my arse covered in case of a drop or nasty spill or the like. Does Asus (or any of the resellers) offer an accidental damage warranty of any sort for the W2J?

You're best solution would be to look up MAC insurance which is cheap... probably like 10% of the cost of the system..... Otherwise if you have homeowners or renters insurance, it's easy to add a computer as a rider on that insurance, but you need to be aware of your deductable on that particular rider...... if it's $500 - $1,000... it doesn't pay to make a claim for a $2,000 item because it's going to raise your rates... if it's very low, than there isn't a better way to go....... Kids in a college dorm setting don't know that their parents can put their things that are in the dorm onto their home owners insurance just like this....... but in a situation like that, it's the best choice.

Can my parents claim my notebook even if they aren't putting any money into my dorm room? Meaning they are 100% not involved with my schooling.

I'm pretty sure they can, but you'll have to have them check on it. This is something that has really come into being within the last 5-6 years with more insurance companies..... but they may need to be paying for your dorming, but I'm not sure.
