Hi,
Does anybody knows if a NEC 6650 DVD burner would fit on my Asus Z63a (I have the Asus drive with its holding bay).
Also would it be possible to replace the NEC's black bezel for my current silver one?
Thanks

It should fit but, the bezel will be the hard part, making it look like its a part of the Z63a.

It would be easier to get the one Asus design for it. Save the trouble.

I swapped the TS-L532A writer that came with my W3A for a Liteon SOSW-852S (the Liteon seems to be less fussy about media and has better multi-region behaviour). I also swapped the bezel without any difficulty. Previously I had also put a Liteon writer in a Fujitsu notebook. I can't remember what the brand was, but the bezel mounting was compatible with the Liteon drive.
This is no guarantee that the bezel mountings for NEC are also compatible, but I am sure that notebook assemblers will be wanting to minimise the number of different bezels they have to produce to fit optical drives.

That's the standard DVD/CDRW or the DVD+-RW/CDRW drive that is being sold.

If you have the Z63a combo drive bezel and mounts, it will fit. If you do not have the Z63a optical drive mounts (mechanical and electrical interfaces) and bezel, forget about it and go to your Z63a dealer buy a Z63a DVD writer. I might be wrong, I don't think there is any dealer will sell you the drive mounts and the bezel without the drive.
Does NEC 6650 work on Asus Z63a ?
