Hi. I just installed F.E.A.R and I barely play it on medium settings for both CPU and GPU related processing. I know that F.E.A.R. have HIGH requirements but is this normal to the X1600? I got even got lags even these settings. Im using a W3J-H026P with stock parts.

Your comments will be highly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

Yeah, the X700 and X1600 are ATI's performance graphics cards. They'll handle modern games on medium-high. So seeing a game like FEAR, a medium would be normal.

I can run it high with 2xAA if shadows are off and get 30-50fps.

Please share your settings so that I can try them out. Will there be a big difference if I upgrade my RAM to 2GB? BIG as in very noticeable such as +20 to + 30 fps? But I am very hesitant because I will lose my ASUS warranty.

usapatriot, do you play FEAR using S96J's native res (1280x800, with the widescreen hack) or using 4 : 3 res?

You won't lose ASUS warranty for adding RAM, but you can e-mail asus about it for being on safe side (and having proof :D)

I have a V6j which has a worse video card and I can play just fine on medium settings - the screen resolution isn't native, but thats because the native on the V6j is way higher than the S96 or W3j.

i have the s96j with just the regular ati 6.8 cc and drivers and i can run fear on high setttings prettty decently with no noticable hiccups so far as i've seen. It may be different because i have a different laptop but it's the same agraphics card. I'm running it in what ever resolution in fear is closest to wxga.

Adding ram does help because it dedicates more ram to the game and allows you dual channeling. And it doesn't void the warranty.

    I run it 1024 x 768.

I have not tried the widescreen hack.
