I am wondering if the z63a have any port on the mobo that would let you plugin a video module? maybe sneak in a nvidia 6800 go or something.
sound pretty impossible tho, but who knows.

Unless you solder and modify the motherboard.

    I've seen it happen!

    Couple of questions,
    1) where are you getting a geforce6800go from...last I saw they weren't being sold in any local pc shops.

    2) If you do some how manage to get hold of such a card...without having to buy 1000 of them...how do you plan on fitting it into the above mentioned lappie? From all accounts the x600 is a v.tight squeeze.

    3) Are you so well off that u can risk $2000 on laptop just to see if you can fit a bigger gpu in it? It not like desktops, make a wrong move in a laptop and the whole thing could go bust, not to mention that you will void your warranty.

Also pretty sure that the m/b are different and run different chipset...ie the z63a has the intel integrated gpu chipset version...i doubt very much that intel would have bothered to include a pci-x port just for kicks on the off chance a dude wanted to put a bigger gpu in his lappie. But maybe Justin can confirm this for you.

sorry for the slightly annoyed tone in my post, but this question is asked so often in this forum (weekly), try doing a bit of a search next time so that we dont have to keep on answering the same question over, and over, and over again.
    a :)

there is no way! the chipset on your z63 doesn't even have pci-express connections because it's got an integrated solution. although technically it COULD be possible to swtich the x600 from a w3v to a go6600, the size difference would probably not support it -- i.e. you'd turn your laptop into a pile of IC's and boards on your desk... removing the "portable" aspect of your notebook (in other words, you'd be better off getting a desktop).

Oh and as for putting a go6800!! Haha, do u have any idea how big that is? No chance!

There is one way. Go down to asus r&d plant somewhere in tai pei i think. Enter the building and head straight for the people in the bunny suits. If anyone stops you just tell em you slept at a holiday inn. ;)

There is a swapable 2nd battery/cdrw-dvd-rom drive... that 2nd battery is like a add on to the main battery, if i don't really care about cd/dvd-rom, maybe i can mod the battery up and give some space for the GPU, so i can hide the GPU behind the 2nd battery. (just an idea)
since slim USB cdrom are everywhere on ebay...

what about tha W3V everyone is talking about? what's the graphic card it uses?

oh yeah, sure, that's a good idea. Then you can just solder wires from the north bridge (assuming it has PCI-express -- but the integrated solution doesn't... but no worries, you can make a PCI-express IC and bridge with some resisters, SC's, capacitors, transistors, and wires), to the go6800 leads in your cdrom drive... except that the interference caused by your non-machined soldering/cabling/distance will cause so much interference, you'll have the equivelent of an ISA port if you're lucky (remember those black, nintendo like ports in 286/386/486/pentiums)... yayh, 64kb/sec transfer.... games will take a few hours to get some polygon information to your video ram and then for a whole 3 seconds u'll have awesome smooth graphics, until it runs out of information  . Geared2Play's idea is 10000 times more practicable. I'd go with that plan.

and a marginally more serious note, however, it would be cool if a small laptop like a w3v has a go6800 in it, but all the space required for cooling could be made up by not having a cdrom drive. I don't even have optical drives in my laptops, cuz i don't need it. I'd much rather be using that space to either have a smaller laptop or have a beefy GPU. There's an idea for Asus (Rather than releasing all these simular laptops like the m2, etc)

Yes, it does have PCI-express connections. Open up your Z63a and you will see.
