Does anyone else experience an increase of 5°C with ATI Catalyst version 10.4 from 10.3?

I'm sure I could google this info or search through 100+ page of posts but I don't feel like it so I'm going to create a new thread and ask here :p

Yesterday I updated my G73JH from 10.3 to 10.4. Since then at idle I have noticed that my fan is noticably louder and that my GPU's idle temp is 65°C to 64°C as opposed to 58°C to 60°C with previous 10.3.

During heavy load in Crysis Warhead with 10.3, I never broke 76°C but with 10.4 I quickly hit 86°C.

Has anyone else noticed this increase in temp/fan speed at idle?
Does anyone know what changes were made in 10.4 to cause this increase in temps?

Nope. In fact I've seen the opposite. My idle temp is currently around 60-61 C whereas before it was 63-64 C.

The fans spinning louder/faster and having HIGHER temps at the same time doesn't make any sense to me. You sure you installed the laptop drivers and not a desktop version?

Also I'm not sure how much of a pita it is to clean out the g73 fans, but you might want to take a can of air to them anyway.

I keep my "play area" and PC as clean/dust free as possible with my Kirby Sentria and Anti Bacterial Windex. So I know it's not dust in the fans.

This is the name of the driver that I installed.

Sorry my question is off topic, and I'm just curious, but is there a G73 maintenance thread? I'm curious about cleaning the dust out the G73 intakes or fans but I dont know exactly where the intakes are... the marketing slides show through the keyboard but I've also read from behind the LCD panel while its open? thanks!

my idle temp is 50C when it's clocked down manually =/

same for all drivers. Load temp is the same as far as I can tell too.

I'm not sure if there is a maitenenace thread here, but I do know that someone posted a disassembly guide here. That might help in preventive maitenenace. I just keep my area/pc clean with a vacuum hose. I also carefully use it to clean my PC and accessories.

I installed 10.3 again. Now my idle temps are 50°C and 76°C to 82°C on full load. I think I'll wait for 10.5 :)

I presume with that idle and load temps you are downclocked? I can't get 10.3/10.4 to run without gsod/psod, and stock drivers run ok, but gives 65 idle and 110c load under furmark or other video tests.

I have no idea if I'm downclocked. If I am I didn't do it intentionally. GPU-Z says my 5870 is 700/1000. Furmark gives me a max temp of 106C with 10.3. I just installed 10.4 just to see if my temps would change back to what they were for me with 10.3. Nope....Still the same increase in temp and fan speed at idle.

At the moment I am on 10.4. I'll give it a shot for the next couple of days.
What I like about 10.3 is that my fans are super quiet at idle. With 10.4 I can clearly hear the GPU fan.

I personally don't like to use Furmark because it does not represent an accurate representation of my GPU usuage with my games. I have all 3 Crysis games and the most I see with 10.3 is 82C.

I just tried left 4 dead 2 with all the eye candy turned on and got 98c after 30 minutes. What I don't understand in on my first g73 furmark extreme got as high as 100/101 and that was it. Now its 110 after 10 minutes. Why the difference? I didn't really get a chance to try any games on that one.

Yes I downclocked intentionally, see the battery life thread.
