Well 1800$ USD convert to SGD is 2800 However I can't seem to find any Singaporean links to the G1, so you'll have to do a search on that, plus the price may be vastly different, because of spec difference and other factors.

    As for DVI vs VGA.
Basicaly VGA is what most people connect CRT monitors, you know those 40 pounds heavy monitors.
Then LCDs came out and many of them use DVI technology, which is digital signals.
VGA is older technology and can not be hooked up directly to a TV or anything that requires DVI output.
However DVI can do both digital and anologue signals, so if you have a CRT but your laptop has DVI, it should have a DVI to VGA adapter, and then you can just plug in your CRT.

But if you have an LCD or TV or anything else, that requires DVI, but your laptop has VGA, you can't do anything, this is why people want DVI over VGA, since DVI can do both, and technology is also moving forward, so DVI will still be able to power bigger and much better TVs and LCDs.

If you want to get into the details of VGA vs DVI in terms of technology, for the most part you will not see the difference in image quality, unless you are a graphic designer or something to that effect.

    This is from CNET Asia

"Both the ASUS G1 and G2 will be available in Singapore from January 2007, with a cost of S$3,588 (US$2,282.73) and S$3,988 (US$2,537.22), respectively."

It's almost $500 than in US prices. That's crazy :)

CNETAsia always mark up the price. Go so SIM LIM SQAURE or Funan Centre for more exact price.

In Taiwan at least, Asus puts a really high MSRP on their notebooks. Then they sell for much less... In Taiwan the G1 is ~$1550 including 5% tax.

As far as quality goes when going from analog VGA to Digital you loose about 10% of the quality.

For Malaysian prices, a very useful site to check is LowYat.Net; search the forums and there is usually some information.

You could try www.ewiz.com they have great prices and they ship internationally. I'm considering to buy the G1 from them. I'm not sure about their customer service though, could anyone provide feedback.

The ewiz price for the a8js is around Rm700 (USD200) cheaper than the price in Malaysia the last time I calculated and it includes shipping. Pretty good price I might say. After some calculations, the G1 should end up roughly in the vicinity of RM7200 (USD 2000)

    Cheers.
