i'm about to move out for college in the upcoming days and i have saved up enough money to get an external lcd monitor to use my g1s on when i'm home and play my 360 as well; i have pretty much decided on getting the samsung 206bw widescreen monitor from newegg.com along with the g11 gaming keyboard, a nice mouse pad, and some vga cables for my 360.
anyway, i am just wondering if anyone else here uses an external monitor with the g1s, or any other notebook for that matter. has it been worth it in the long run? any particular models you all suggest?
thanks in advance!

I'm using my G1S with a Viewsonic VX2025wm, with a logitech Media Keyboard Elite and G5. IMO if you live close enough to your college or are going to be coming home frequently then it's a good choice to pick up a monitor. Playing on the G1S LCD screen made me want more after using my VX2025wm for over a year now. I'd recommend a 20.1" LCD, as it has the same native resolution and is very cheap now a days. I've read that the 22" models don't perform as well. I'd recommend one of the Samsung Syncmasters or w/e with the 2000:1 contrast ratio's as I've read good reviews about them.

I use my old 15 inch lcd as a second screen when using photoshop, comes in handy when I place the tools on the second monitor.

Hi, I have an Asus G1S-AK005C, and I have a ViewSonic VX922 19" LCD monitor.
Seems that my laptop have some problems with the external VGA; I use my monitor with my previous laptop, an old IBM, and all worked fine.
With the G1S the external monitos works bad, I see the desktop and all the icons, but I see also many horizontal bansd moving moving to the bottom of the LCD, as if the refresh frequency is too low... I controlled the refresh frequency but was 60 Hz, then I've tried to set it to 70 and finally to 75 Hz (the maximum setting for my LCD monitor), but the preoblem persists aven if is a little better with the higher frequency settings.
What could it be?
I think is a notebook problem, with the old notebook there wasn't problems...
Someone has tried the external VGA of the G1S?
My model is G1S-AK005C (1680x1050 native resolution of the notebook LCD).
The setting of the external monitor is 1280x1024...
I've also tried some Nvidia settings but nothing solved the problem.
Ah, I have Windows XP with all the drivers and the Asus ATK utility installed, I also updatet the last video drivers (8600 GT), downloaded from www.laptopvideotogo.com
Any suggestion?
The temperature of the notebook with the external monitor attached (even if I disable the laptop LCD) is very high and the fan si noisy...
Have you the same problem?
Thank you... sorry for my bad english, I'm Italian! ;-) -
I got my G1S just under 2 weeks ago, and decided to try out a Samsung 226bw. Given the fact that I haven't exactly thoroughly tested this lcd external monitor, I am somewhat disappointed with the external vga display of the G1S.. First of all, I did realise that the power was too close to the vga, which was causing the monitor to flicker (slightly when machine idle, more when machine is processing). Did some research and decided to try out a shielded vga cable. Thankfully, this fixed most of the flickering issues. But now I'm stuck with a somewhat unattractive vga cable - I'm not really too fussed about the looks, but it just seems a little out of place with a very attractive looking laptop and external monitor.
Secondly, I am unsure of why this is occurring, but quite frequently, for some reason, my external moitor decides to flicker only on the left hand side. It's a little difficult to explain, but it's basically just the left half of the monitor flickers with these crazy horizontal lines.. When this does happen, I have to modify the resolution, refresh rate etc, until at some stage, it decides not to do it any more. I'll have to hook in this monitor into my desktop to see if it's a laptop vga or actual monitor issue, but something tells me it's the laptop at fault (Latest drivers and so forth that I could find, are installed)
I definitely don't regret getting my G1S, I'm absolutely happy with it, but it's just little things like this that put me off a little.. When I don't hook in an external display, it's the perfect laptop -
I have my G1S connected to a 32" flat panel HDTV display. I originally had it running off of the HDMI output but for some reason I couldn't turn off the overscanning. Hence the display was either unreadable or too big, requiring constant scrolling. It's now running off the VGA output, and runs perfectly. I use the laptop and TV as my entertainment center in my BOQ (bachelor officer's quarters) room, and it's great. Media Center is great for music and DVD's, and looks great in full screen on the HD display. THe only thing I can't figure out is whenever something is displayed full screen on the secondary monitor, I can't get the mouse to move between displays - it stays stuck on the secondary LCD. No big deal, but a minor annoyance. Looks great otherwise.

I use a LG 32" LCD TV as a monitor trough the HDMI port at 1360X768. Looks great, no issues so far.
Does anyone use an external LCD monitor for usage with a G1S?
