It seems like best buy sold me a used returned laptop. I'm very upset right now... Does best buy always do this? Do I have to pay the 15% restock fee? I really want my laptop to be 100% new or at least trick me to be 100% new. I'm very upset that my laptop is obviously used and don't know what the previous guy might of even done to the laptop.

When you say obviously used what do you mean?
Did you pay full price or discounted price?
You could try and go to BB and tell them that when you bought the laptop it was obviously used and if you paid full price you should have a brand new laptop.
They have a 14 day return policy so you should be able to return it and get a new one.
Usually when they sell things that people have returned to the store they'll let you know that you can buy a used xxx instead of the new one at a lower price. -

Take it back, especially if there was any proof. But there usually not gonna argue with this. Worst things happened at some other retailers and they did everything they could to satisfy the situation. They should exchange it.

I bought a brand new G71GX laptop today because I heard about the fix. Start to unwrap the laptop and something felt strange from the 1st laptop I purchased. Once I actually got the laptop out of the foam protection around it I noticed there was some weird tape on the top cover and that it was all bubbly. (as if someone has placed it back on, which was not the case for my 1st laptop) Then I checked the refurbish CD and noticed that the disk 1 was scratched (something that happens when you use it. I know it because I used it on my old copy)
I am currently very upset about this problem because Best Buy rips people off by even having a 15% restock fee yet fail to even make the item look new, not only that if the person did return this laptop due to the 82C problem, it would be considered as a defect at that point and Best Buy ripped me off on purpose. I even asked the sales lady if the item was brand new and never opened, and she answered me yes.
Wow, personally I can't believe best buy because I was pretty much the 2nd person to buy the G71GX and had to go through so much problem the 1st day because I actually did not know what was going on with the computer, not only that when I try to return the copy I had to try to make the laptop 82C when the room tempt was like 50C. Now they sell me a Used copy of the laptop at a totally different Best Buy. -
The tape on the backpanel on mine was all bubbly so thats normal , i have gotten scratched Restore DVDs before so thats not unheard of either . the box has 2 red tab stickers on it so it would be very hard to open it without messing with those as they come apart in pieces .
-
normally they inform you that it is used and they give you a discount. Most are happy to here that it is used and thus a tad cheaper. I assume that the clerk assumed that you would not mind, just go in there and explain the situation.
-
Quadzilla the whole packaging is way different from the 1st one I bought. not only that the whole thing on top the laptop was all bubbly and had those kind of dirt/hand stain marks on the side. Like as if someone peeled it off and put it back on. Not only that there was a crumpled orange tape on the front like the one that holds the actual screen protector.
I'm upset because the lady I bought it from clearly explained that the laptop was brand new. -

If it came out presetup that would be a good sign. The restore discs on the G50 did not restore the system to like new condition, i do not know how this will be on the G51. Using F9 at bootup would restore the system to like new condition though and thats the best way on the G50. Your reasoning appears to be that you think they used the restore disc then returned it. Run the restore disc see if the laptop is now missing software like the G50 did.
If you think there is a problem there wipe your data off it and return it asap just get another one, complain if you wish but there shouldnt be any issue. -
No my problem is that the whole laptop was packed different than my 1st one. Not only that the front cover had hand stain mark all over it and was obviously returned with some randomly crumpled orange tape to the side.
Does anyone know cases where laptops would be packed differently and look obviously returned?
But I understand how you point out the issue might be at where it was packed, but that really doesn't exactly seem like the issue in my case. -
was the seal broken when you bought it? did it have best buy tape on it or any geek squad tape on it?
-
If it was me and i thought somin was up,it(laptop) would be back at BB so fast it would make your head spin.....
-
I bought it pretty much before BB closed. I bought it around 8ish and noticed it a few min ago. By the way the seal was not broken, but obviously the laptop packaging was not the way it was at all. And from what I have read online other retailers and Best Buy has done this before, and estimating how BB prob got a few returned laptop of these I expect it to not be so hard to reapply the seal. Or am I wrong?

Yeah I'm def going to exchange it. But this is going to be my 2nd return at Best Buy for the same item. But am I wrong that if a laptop looks like it's used it's used? I mean I don't except a "brand new" laptop to look all used up when it was supposedly brand new out of the box.
-
you bought one laptop, thought it was open/tampered with, returned it, bought another one of same type, opened it and thouth it was tampered with too? -
No I was the 2nd person on this forum to buy the G71GX. So I had no clue it had the whole 82C problem. And not being the most knowledgeable with laptops I got pretty frustrated and returned it, because it really didn't do its purpose as a "gaming" laptop.
So, now that once the bios fix has came I decided that it will be safe to buy the G71GX again. However, this time the whole packaging was different, and the thing pretty much looked like some guy took the back panel off and put messed around with it for a bit and put it back on and returned it. -

I wouldn't want the guy flipping burgers to "try out" my cheeseburger first, why would I want some laptop salesman to try out my laptop first? -
why bleed all of this stomach acid here when you have 14 or so days to take the laptop back to bb?
unless you've developed an unhealthy, unnatural bond with this thing, take it back.
if you get another machine, have the gs open it up on their counter for you.
if you still have buyers regret, get out of the laptop buying mode for a while until you settle down a bit and decide what you really want. -

Return it if you feel like the condition isnt worth what it should be they may try to be a pain though since you exchanged the laptop before be straight forward about it to them.

Yeah sorry about the whole big deal. My 2nd new laptop since 4 years ago. I just have been having so many problem with this model and the I was at first super excited to even buy it.
Also the whole 14 day thing is a fraud. :\ (not really) but they even charge a 15% restock fee if you want to return like a laptop or a TV or w/e. So, it's not as simple as walk in and exchange for another item.
I don't know the thing about me is that I'm sure this was a returned item due to the suppose GPU "defect" (which was not actually a defect but a simple bios problem); however, I feel really bad that BB would sell me something like that. -
And some people wonder why:
1. Things cost as much as they do - Customer Service Dept, Restocking.
2. Online retail is more attractive than Brick & Mortar - Having to ship something back will make you more willing to understand (not immediate blame seller) than return.
Was the seal intact?
Does your notebook look immaculate?
When you first powered it on did it go to an initial setup?
The irony of the situation is you could "swap" your not-really-new notebook for a brank-spanking-new notebook and the latter have issues.
If you cannot tell if it is used after owning it new before, then you may be getting too occupied with something that may be nothing. -
Agreed I used to be like that, now if it looks and feels new I am down with it.

Hi Rednara
I'm not sure where you live.. but the best buy I use doesn't charge any restocking fee.. Unless of course it is because you opened it..., though yes it seems it is the case that you opened it so then I guess restocking would apply... (afterall they can't sell it as "new" or at least shouldn't) but if indeed it wasn't new when purchased ... Don't worry just return it no need to fuss or argue I'm sure they will work with you.. good luck
