My laptop is currently out of warranty and the LCD screen broke. I strongly believe the cracked hinge defect is what damaged and broke my screen but its out of warranty anyways so theres nothing I can do.

Would I be able to go to the Service Centre and have them repair it at a charge (parts and repair?

Where are you located? Some people aren't having the best luck with asus service centers, hence after posting your location hopefully those individuals will shy you away from certain service centers with poor reputations.

Generally, yes they do. You need to call the TechSupport number to discuss.

If they have to replace the screen, you're probably looking at $400-500 with labor -- for an older A8j, you might be better off taking the money and using it to buy new instead.... the K series is selling for $700 or so, as an example.

Mississauga, Ontario. The closest station is at Richmond Hill (or Markham...always get those two confused). I have been there before for the cracked hinge and a faulty graphics card and they were excellent both times.

Damn. I guess I am better off either using the estore and doing it myself or keeping this laptop tethered with an external (aka new desktop) and buying some <$1000 Dell.

It's in Markham now, its also right off the 404 at Hwy7, so it'll take not long to get there, about half an hour, assuming you get on the 401 and go north on the 404, but you would know since you've been ther e :p

As mentioned, the motherboard and LCD are the most expensive parts to a notebook, so if they are broken/dead, in most cases, the depreciation costs aren't worth it :(
