Hi,
Just a little question, i don't know if this has been asked before:
I heard current Notebooks only send video through their HDMI port and not audio. Is that true?
I'd like to connect my HDTV to my Asus G1S (i don't have it, yet).

That is not correct.
Notebooks with HDMI output both audio and video through the HDMI port.
-
So I will be able to hear the sound from my HDTV when i connect my Asus G1S with it? Sounds cool...thanks for the answer.
Dunno where I heard the HDMI from current notebooks don't carry audio, but i had it somehow on my mind. -
I asked this same question and someone told me that the G1S does not actually carry the audio.
How about this, I will go try it out right now.
I'll be back in a few minutes. -
Wow...cool. Thanks for trying out
-
ask yourself this.... if the hdmi interconnect did NOT carry sound why did they bother with a hdmi output connector?? Why didnt Asus just use a dvi??
-
No audio.
I tried a few different things to try and get the audio to work but it did not.
I am going to research the issue a little more and see what I can pull up.
Mike, you make a good point.

Hm...strange. Mike, i didn't think about this but sounds very logical. Unfortunately LiveDesign didn't get audio to work. I really wonder why it doesn't work.
I've asked the same question in the first post in another forum and someone told me that the HDMI port of the Aspire 5920G carries both video and audio... -

This is another discussion.
I'm still researching. -
It does not seem to do audio, insanely.. I tried it and was baffled.
I *hope* this is something that can be updated, otherwise it would've been 1 million times smarter to just use DVI. It kinda ticks me off that they'd do it this way even at release, and who knows it it can or will be updated ever. -
almost no laptop carries audio with hdmi - Hp does not do it, i dont believe dell does it, etc
i have read that the c90 carries 1.3hdmi which would mean audio but dont know for sure -
Current notebooks do not carry audio through the HDMI port because it has no physical connection to the sound card. It is only attached to the video card. The reason they use either HDMI instead DVI, is because alot of displays are now being manufactured with HDMI ports instead of DVI. Really the output is the same, and that is why they have many DVI to HDMI cables, but I guess it is for convenience sake or for future plans to route sound out of the HDMI. But currently there are no notebooks that I know of that carry sound through the HDMI.
-
The ASUS units usually mark it as a micro-DVI (uDVI) rather than HDMI to differentiate it from a full-blown HDMI.

There are quite a few notebook that carry audio thru hdmi. Im sure the G1S does. I think sombody here confirmed it.
Just remember you may have to set your sound out as hdmi in your auido somwhere. Also remember to set your monitor's sound in as hdmi.
As for the C90... I can tell you personally in a few more days after I have mine and have tested. I have a 37" HD LCD that I use for my computer monitor and it supports HDMI and has built in speakers. -
now the c90 has pointed out that it includes hdmi 1.3:
which if it didn't carry audio, there'd be no point to explain which version it is because going from different versions basically changes the audio support, the video support has been the same in all versions
so hopefully
the c90 will support it because that would be great. will have mine soon, perhaps in 2 weeks

BTW I just now ordered my hdmi cable. If anybody else needs one you can get the 7ft Link Depot one at Newegg.com for 5$ + 5$ shipping.
10$ for a 7ft cable with perfect reviews. Much better than say.... 70-100$ at a retial store so dont get fooled out of your money!!
3 day shipping so I wont have my results for the hdmi in for probably 4 days from now. -

Not really.

There is alot that changed in 1.3 spec, most of it is video actually but the audio stuff has been added aswell. -
I've asked some people in another forum and they confirmed that their Acer Aspire 5920G and Samsung R70 carry sound through HDMI.
Someone told me we would have to change the sound output to HDMI:
Control Panel --> Sounds and Audio Devices --> "Audio" Tab ---> Change audio playback to "Realtek HDMI Output"
Could someone be so kind and try this out? -
I am going right now.
There was no Realtek HDMI Output Option but there was a Digital Output option.
I just set it as my default and I am going to my TV NOW! -
It works!!!
Full Dolby Digital!
Let me try a DVD. -
OK WOO HOO!!
So I put in MI:2. Picture is beautiful and the audio is full Digital.
I have a high end A/V HDMI Reciever that is telling me that the audio is multi-channel. All 5.1 system components are working and outputting separate channels. -
Well I'll be.. Sure does work by setting digital as default in the sound settings. Nice.
-
When you play a DVD onto your HDTV through the G1S, do you get any video artifacts, tearing or anything?
Petrov. -
No, none. I remembered someone asking that (I think it was you) so I specifically looked for it.
-
Were there any settings you used when attaching it to the TV, refresh, or anything? Also, what media player did you use to play the DVD (just Vista's default media player?).
Thanks for your help!
Petrov. -
Wohoo, thanks LiveDesign for testing. Guess my advice helped
Now this is cool -
First off I have a Samsung 61" DLP HDTV.
I hooked my laptop up via an HDMI A/V Receiver.
I changed no settings for the video, the refresh rate was 60Hz (or whatever the default is on the laptop).
EDIT: I used Windows Media Player
It was really just plug and play (expect for the Audio Output change).
Yes it did, I almost forgot.....REP UP! -
Yeah u2, thanks for testing out

I was the first to say what to do actually
4 post above:
... oh well -
YAAAYYY!! I was so scared at first because this was something I was really looking foward being able to use, and when this thread first popped up a few days ago I had a very big sad face on me.
Mine should arrive any minute now I'm so freakn excited. -
lol you guys all make me laugh
As ive known audio has always been transmitted via HDMi im glad one of you finally got it done.
Congrats LiveDesign
and no ViciousXUSMC dont be going taking all the credit. For i remember you clearly stating it was a mobo issue when another poster with a W2P lost his hdmi audio. So its clear you guess most of the time or repeat what others have already pointed out. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Yeah he LOST his audio when he had it before after installing things, I figured there was a driver he removed that was needed to get the audio bridged from the sound to the hdmi. However repeating what others have pointed out is all this guy did and he had all these praising post I guess it just kind of annoyed me.
Besides thats all learning is, sombody tells you something be it a teacher at school, or a paper/book you read, or the forums here themselves. Once you obtian some knowledge you pass it on to others by repeating it.
There is a big differrence in repeating knowledge from a different thread or source than from a post 4 boxes up from you that nobody seemed to have seen.
Also that thread your refering too, nobody said a thing about setting up the audio out device as far as I know, if they did I never read it. -
I know the feeling, and the wait is soooo worth it.
Oh man. You have no idea (yet.....
).

Hi guys, i was wondering if someone can help me with the audio settings through HDMI i have it set up right now and i get audio but its very poor. Is there a specific setting i need to make? im trying to play music and movies that are on my HDD right now but its not sounds to pretty.
Thanks in advance -
Never mind solved the problem
. thanks
ciao -
z84j does audio and vid without a problem. not to mention it can also use SPDIf 5.1 output hahhaha
HDMI should carry audio to ur HDTV -
Has anyone got HDMI audio to work using this method in Windows XP? I have the latest realtek drivers, but have no option for digital output anywhere...?
-
I just ordered my HDMI cable yesterday. thanks for pointing out the audio setting
-
Hi Guys - Apologies for jumping into the middle of the G1 thread, but was wondering if anyone knows of a solution for the v1jp??
I'm having the same issues and unfortunately there's no realtek option under the sound options. I'm running XP.
Any ideas? -
I have an Asus G1s, Running Windows Vista, connected to my HDTV through the HDMI cable. The video is coming through just fine, but there is no audio at all. Any ideas? And yes i tried just enabling the realtek digital output
-
Well, from the posts before this I thought (hoped) the issue was resolved and was going to go home and check it out. I connected my G2S lapton to my plasma tv with the hdmi port and also did not get sound. I too am running Vista. I was going to change the audio to digital and see what happens but from your post it seems there may still be an issue with Vista?
-
"I was going to change the audio to digital and see what happens but from your post it seems there "
I'd say try it anyway?
(I have no idea about these TV things, though. Never did it)
Does the HDMI Port of the Asus G1S also carry Audio?
