    The battery light is blinking green/orange even when off. It starts fine with the battery out. ...could it be the battery?

    If that is it, what is a good replacement? [preferably from newegg/tigerdirect or ncixus]

    Is the battery being charged? The most practical way to test the brick and battery is to replace one or the other, and see if you can recreate the problem. It's simple to rule out, but it will cost you time (due to shipping, if you purchase online or over the phone) and money.
