Usually use NewEgg but ZZF supposedly had the W3j in stock, turned out they did not, but had not updated their site.

So, three weeks later, shippment arrives, ZZF updates their page to in stock, but my back order isn't filled and my order still says that its in processing. Email ZZF, call too, with no luck getting in touch with anyone. Sweet. I can't even cancel the order and get one from NewEgg now.

Anyone have any advice on dealing with ZZF?

We get many calls a day saying places like these have stock and why don't you and the simple answer is always that we fill backorders while leaving the item out of stock until we physically have available stock that doesn't have anyone else's name on, sitting in our warehouse. Sites like these never see their merchandise and in terms of caring about one particular brand of systems that comprises a tiny part of their sales..... you get it when you get it. You can't expect them to be on top of everything, all the time.... that's just the simple fact.

.... I can't imagine if you called them up and told them the situation they wouldn't let you cancel your order.... especially if it still hasn't shipped and they have no stock... that doesn't make any sense.

well I've ordered about $1000 worth of stuff from them and never had a problem. I prefer them over newegg as they have much more reasonable shipping and end up being a bit cheaper.

ZZF emailed that unit would ship tomorrow!

Normally wouldn't be so uptight, but I really really really need the notebook for class. All of our lectures are via PowerPoint.

    Crossing fingers....

lol "all of the lectures are via powerpoint"

so, are u planning on typing the ppt slides out? unlikely hahaha...soon you'll be like the rest of the kids with notebooks in class...IMing on MSN or playing some kind of game or just surfing the net. thats why some prof's don't allow notebooks into their lecture halls.

on the other hand...who can turn down the offer that u can play games in class :p

In my medical school class everyone types additional notes for each slide. Students are expected to have a notebook.

Hello. Yup i had a similiar problem as i ordered a ferrari 4005 from them in march. They were out of stock (not, however according to the website) and my order status was always in the processing stage. After a couple of slightly grumpy emails from me they said they were out of stock and my order was put on backorder. I could cancel it if i wished as they didnt know when a new shipment would arrive (i dont think it ever did as i guess Acer phased it out in prep for the 5005). This was after a few weeks of waiting so i cancelled the order and they refunded my money with no dramas.

Every cloud has a silver lining however as now theres some new cooler notebooks that im humming and haaring over. I did buy other stuff from ZZF that was in stock and it was all delivered with no problems. My ferrari debarcle was frustrating as they wernt overly helpful but i think i would buy from them again if i was ordering several things that were all definitely in stock (although how one definitely knows this i am unsure). Their customer service was disappointing. Perhaps because they are such a big company they dont care if a few customers fall through the cracks.

Anyway thats my sob story i guess the moral of my speil is ZZF is good if they have the products but not so good if they dont. As for my advice; try a few grumpy emails; that seemed to work for me!

Yep, notebooks are becoming a must for university these days. The damned docs are either PPT or PDF files now. It also pays to get one of those LCD screens which can pivot and turn 90 degrees to read PDFs on the screen, but I was only able to buy that after I got my BEng degree. :(
