I have a couple questions about my Asus s96j, if someone would be kind enough to answer.

When I look through my system information, two hardware components don't have drivers. The 'Ethernet controller' and the 'PCI Device'. I checked Asus and Intel with no luck. I pretty much downloaded everything they had for my Windows XP OS, so I can't imagine what else I would be missing. I used a utility identifier tool and even those can't identify the hardware that is missing the drivers.

I also have a question that is not necessarily a problem, but just curiosity. What exactly is a Mobile Intel Chipset Express? I downloaded the driver from Asus, but I am not exactly sure what it does. I know it has nothing to do with my Intel Wireless Card, so what is it? Is it necessary?

    Thanks for any replies.

There are two network controllers on the Z/S96J: wireless and wired. As far as PCI device, nothing else really comes to mind. Can you post the vendor amd ID numbers of those devices? (Under System: Device Manager: <device>: Details: Device Instance ID. The part that says PCI\VEN_xxxx&DEV_yyyy).

    For Ethernet controller:
    PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8167&SUBSYS_13451043&REV_10\4&3029DB9D&0&38F0

    For PCI device
    PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2360&SUBSYS_2360197B&REV_02\4&335E5CC8&0&00E0

The Ethernet controller appears to be a Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family Gigabit Ethernet NIC.

The PCI device appears to be a JMicron 360 SATA controller, so I'm guessing that's for your eSATA port if you have a newer revision of the S/Z96.

They didn't happen to give you a driver disk with that system, did they? Maybe it's on it but not part of the automatic install.

Actually they did give me a driver install disk, but for whatever reason when I put in the CD I would get a message like "incompatible format". I then decided to download the drivers manually from the Asus support site. I'm pretty sure I didn't miss anything, but I'll give them a second look. Thanks for the help AlexF, I appreciate it.

Edit: I think I know why I missed the eSATA driver. It is under the Vista OS drivers. Is it okay to download Vista drivers even though I'm using XP Professional? Also I don't see Realtek Ethernet drivers at Asus support, but I'm pretty sure I can find it elsewhere.
