Hello,
Is there anyone out there running their V1S on Vista 64bits? What drivers are you using?![]()
Im having a hard time getting the CPU load to normal levels..![]()

I would recommend doing as others have already suggested to you, Install a fresh copy of win 64, take the Asus drivers from the Asus website (ACPI drivers), And get everything else from their manufacturers, IE the realtek sound drivers you get from realtek, the video drivers you get from laptopvideo2go.
I also think your being a little unrealistic of your expectations of the fan noise in the V1s, it is a very loud fan and even at idle it is quite audiable, I would recomend leaving it in quiet office mode if your really worried about it but doing things like putting a 7200rpm drive in there is just going to make the heat worse and the fan spin up more. -
IMO the V1S is the most quiet gaming-capable laptop if we forget the Apple MBP. -
Fan noise is a very subjective issue, let's keep that in mind
-
Indeed.... But it is comparable to other notebooks and as I had quite a lot of them (for testing etc.) I am really happy about my V1S and I consider it as the most (or one of the most) quiet gaming capable laptop.
I remember the discussions on the Del I1520... Some were so happy about their quiet notebook and some sent it back to Dell because it was too loud... -
I'd have to agree that is is quieter than notebooks I've worked with in the past year (ie. Lenovo N300 and Dell 1650).
That said, I'm still thinking about trying to make it even quieter by applying some Artic Silver on the CPU/Heatsink.
Also, I hear that the Thinkpad T60 have an incredibly quiet fan so maybe I can figure out a way to swap these two fans, assuming they are the same size. -
They will very likely not be the same size. Or the same connector. Or the same layout of the fan casing. Even if they are, they should run at the same voltage and the new fan should draw at most the same power as the old one.
From personal experience, Arctic Silver helps a few degrees... at most. I don't think it will slow down the fan. So I'm not sure it's worth giving up the warranty for that (you need to break the warranty sticker on the heatsink to apply the thermal paste) -
EBE,
I'm actually just hoping to reduce the crossover threshold for the fan speeds. Although given your info about the warranty sticker, I'll probable wait until the warranty expires before performing this mod.
