Is there an expected day (new product, new hardware, back to school sales) when the Asus Z71V will drop a little?
I want to get one before august, but am awaiting this such price drop (if there is one)
Someone said that, in general, prices for most laptops should be lower in early june/ late july, will this be true? (they said it was because of athlon coming out with new mobile chip)
Thanks!

It's a barebone system.... prices go up and down everyday. It's not a pre-configred system that sells for the same price throughout the quarter....
Usually cpu's drop once every quarter.. so the first week of July... you can get a 1.86ghz cpu for the price of the 1.7 now.... But at the same time, ram and hard drives could and do fluctuate... so there really isn't a reason to wait unless you want the top end cpu.... becasue that drops a lot, but unless you're looking to go with a 2.1ghz cpu now... you're not going to see much difference.

First week of July - great, that's almost 3 weeks earlier than I thought it would be
Now I really have something to look forward to.

Is the w3v also expected to drop in price the first week of July?

No...... prices will not drop on them. Pre-configured systems usually keep their same price. Again, system build after the price drop the new systems will just get the next higher cpu, but they need to be built, shipped to the US and then ordered and stocked by dealers..... this process puts us into August (between the begining and the middle) before we see a W3 with a 2.0 at $1899 ....... That of course might change....... for instance.... people might end up wanting more ram and/or a bigger hard drive and Asus might make up the difference in cost by using those. But typically they don't drop the price unless they don't have anything to upgrade.....
It's complicated, but usually the only thing every to base buying around a price drop is if you're looking for the highest cpu... a 2.1ghz right now. That will drop a couple hundred bucks... Other than that, you're not really going to be effected and unless it's the day or week before that price drop, it's not worth the wait to save $40-50 or to just get the next tiered cpu....
Thanks,
Justin

Well, TO ME, the free proccessor upgrade would be well worth the wait (i don't NEED this laptop IMMEDIATELY).
So what you're saying is that the only thing that will happen is that they will give a higher proccessor for the same price, rather than lowering the overall price of the laptop?
And this will happen in late june, early july -- right?

What I'm saying is if you're buying an average system... one might go with a 1.7 cpu........ in a month or so, the 1.8 will be the same price as the current 1.7....
At the same time, ram and hard drives fluctuate, as well as stock of the systems....
I'm just saying, if you don't need it now... only get it when you need it..... but if you need it, waiting isn't going to be all that you think it's cracked up to be. The performance difference between all of the cpus right now isn't that much. Like I said, unless you're looking at the 2.1ghz right now..... you're not going to be getting off much better by waiting. If you are looking at the 2.1, you could end up saving $400 or so....... that makes a difference.
Thanks,
Justin

Prices on optical drives just fell by 20$. You will se most dealers lower theirs soon. Memory is at its lowest. If you need a laptop waiting will not save you anything if you want asus. By the time cpu prices drop ram prices will go up. The ram market is almost like a stock market. If you know it well you can stock up at the right time and make a killing later. Now is the time. The prices on barebones are way lower then what they were a couple months ago for the old chipsets.

Its a good point about the RAM. For example, first V6 came out with 2 sticks (256MB) and later due to drop in price of 512MB sticks (and dealers pressure to ship them with only one), Asus started shipping them with 512 stick only, so it easier to upgraded it. But, I heard from one dealer (who apparently spoke to Asus about it) that there is a possibility they will ship again with 2 sticks (if the price of RAM goes up again, I guess). I dont know how true this is, but you never know
