I took the battery out of my Z70VA to add more memory (so I could get ready to sell it) and I dropped the battery. The battery plastic casing cracked, but it seems to be working fine. Can I assume it is safe to use and not a fire hazard?????

If there's no liquid oozing out then you should be fine, just that the case cracked. You could try and super glue it back together so the crack doesn't get bigger.

Inside the battery are the individual cells (6/8/9/12) that contain a liquidy substance that hold the electricity that powers your laptop. And around them is the casing, so its ok to crack the casing but not the cells :s

I would keep a close eye on it, and if possible wrap it up with some tape or something to hold it together.

Check if the battery isn't running hotter than usual, or making odd, high frequency noises. Li ion batteries are susceptible to damage on impact.
