I have Vista-64 installed on my Asus A8Js.
My hard disk drive is partitioned into 2 driver. I wanna install Windows XP on the second partition.
I tried the recovery CD but it has no such option......all it does it delete everything and format and install

What do I do if i wanna install Windows XP on the second partition?

Its abit easier if you have xp installed first, infact its seamless.

However its still possible to do it with Vista installed first.

Just follow this guide. You can skip the part about creating a partition since you already have one.

I have a triple boot :p btw ^^ easybcd is your best friend.

I didnt get no install disk with my laptop
I opened with Windows XP casing and inside was the recovery disk, which has the XP setup
its not like a normal installation disk........that is the problem

Yep, the simplest solution is to install whatever you have on a recovery disk on the first partition, and then the other OS on the second partition.

There are probably solutions where you don't lose your current OS (possibly involving making partition images etc) but I'm not aware of them.

    Well 2 things:

A.) Its a embeded OEM windows wich is ok it will function the same as a xp disk.

B.) Its a recover disk image, wich means your SOL.

However I still have a fix for you.

Even if B is the case you have to have patience tho.

    You need to:

1.) Go ahead and run the recovery and get xp back on your system and wipe out the vista install. This should have things back to how they were way back when...

2.) Use a 3rd party utillity like Nortons Partition Magic to shrink the partition that XP is on and create a new partition to install Vista on.

3.) Install Vista on the new partition.

4.) Walla! all done, vistas bootloader will see the xp intall during the install process and will take care of the dual boot for you.

You will get a menu that says

    > Boot into Windows Vista
    > Boot into Previous Version of windows (this is your xp istall)

    From there your all set.

If you want to change what it says thats another thing easybcd is good for.

    My boot menu says.

    >Microsoft Windows XP
    >Windows Vista Home Premium x86
    >Windows Vista Ultimate x64

when my boot menu comes up.

no need to come off rude, im only trying to help.

If you dont have a fully functional xp install disk, just like I said above your kind of sol.

there are still some shady methods I know of to help you but I dont post my underground advice on the forums.

Im sorry, im out of ideas really.

You need a xp install disk to install xp, its just that simple. If you only have a recovery disk you have to take the round about method of installing xp first via recovery then Vista second.

Yes it sucks... but atleast it will work
