I am confused on which one should I buy? I know the HE has the N280, but some claims that it's not much of a big difference with the N270 in terms of performance. Can you guys give me some pointers on why I should go towards the HE version instead of the HA? The difference I see is the wireless-N, but not sure if this is really useful and also the shift key and the HE version claims to have a better battery life... I am not so worried about battery life, as long as it can get around 6 hours or so...

Can someone please help me to clear up my doubts...

Both the 1002HA and 1000HE have wireless N. I'd go with the 1000HE since it's better spec'ed and cheaper. :)

I don't think the 1000HE isn't cheaper... if it's cheaper then I wouldn't open this topic up :D. Is it better to get the 1000HA with 2GB memory or a 1000HE with a 1 GB memory?

And what I am asking here is the 1000HA not the 1002HA

    My mistake :p

ram is easily upgradable, and i'd take longer battery life anytime over move ram, but that's just me :) Plus, the keyboard on the 1002HE seems a little more user-friendly ;)

if the difference is in bluetooth and wireless-n I don't really think that I would use both of those features.. I'll be using this around campus and so I don't need that long range of wireless and so far till this point of my life, I've never used bluetooth as well... so both of that feature is out from my list (i.e I don't care if they exist or not). The other concerns would then be battery life and as well keyboard layout and comfort, if the difference in both systems are really noticeable then I might get the HE. I saw someone at Ebay sold it for $390, but I also saw another one at $435.

Yes the only differences between the 2 models are battery life and keyboard layout. The HE also has a negligible increase in performance, 1.6GHz vs 1.66GHz. I think the HE is slightly heavier, but also negligible amount of weight.

BT, Wireless card, everything else is the same.

Btw, Wireless N doesn't give more range as far as I know. It's only a difference in maximum data transfer speeds, N gives 108 MB/s and G gives 54 MB/s.

Yes, and I bet my campus access point can't give me an internet speed of 54 MB/s, which is totally pointless at this point. As for battery life, as far as I have 6 hours of battery life, then that is enough for me. Some people even get better performance from the N270 chips rather than the N280, is this true? I am thinking of getting a used 1000HA at ebay... at this point, price is really the main factor that I am looking at..

I've read that as well... I know this is the ASUS forum, but what other 10" do you think are better than this? I am also considering the new HP mini note

The only other netbook that I'd recommend other than the Asus 1000HE is the Samsung NC10.

I think I prefer ASUS rather than Samsung brand wise... so yea I'll stick with the 1000Hx series... do you think that there's a possible price reduction of the HE series next month??

Absolutely not. The price won't go down until at the very least, the Ion is released. It's 399$. You can however preorder it for a 20$ discount.

The Acer Aspire One 10" that just released is also another option. It has the same battery life as the 1000HA, retails for 349.99$. It is also one of the few netbooks with a full sized right shift key (Samsung NC10 and HP Mini being the other two.)

This is always the problem with technology, you keep on waiting for something and you will never buy anything. LOL

I've had a G1 and so far I am pleased with it, never had a Samsung before so won't take a risk in trying it out.

I am also considering the Acer Aspire One 10", however not a lot has been seen in Ebay. Oh and by the way I want to purchase the system at Ebay as I have some extra cash there.

that is true though, but if you really dont need to buy one to replace existing one, i think u can still wait for a while.

Unless, ur current one is not function anymore, then ... however, still believe that it's worth a while to wait for couple more month, i think new model will not tag @ a higher price with little bit more performance improvement.

by the way, 1000HE weighted at 3.2lbs, a bit "heavier" than other netbook, i think, most others are below 3lbs, correct me, if i am wrong. And to me, if i want to buy a netbook to carry around, weight is a big consideration, even with few .x lbs difference

If the performance and battery life improvements are huge at the same time I would consider it.. May is probably the time when I really need one

Are you talking about the new tablets or new 3G an wimax models announced today? Or something completely new (like with Nvidia Ion or the GN40 chipset)?

might used the wrong phrase, but not something completely new, just performance improved netbooks will be release soon in the nearing future, HP 2150 and HP dv2, also, Asus netbooks, but not quite sure yet.

I am just try to say that it is worth a while to wait for an enhanced netbook with similiar prices.

GN40 might take a little longer.

I did some searching, the 1000HE can be had for 340 (jr.com after live discount) I have one on order now

The 1000HA is running about 320 ish...

So for 20 Dollars, you get Wireless N, Bluetooth, and a longer battery life. (again the processor doesnt impress me much)
