I'm looking for a light netook for my girlfriend and the 1000 seems to be the most logical choice.
i have no idea what i'm doing when it comes to asus  so i am just looking for some opinions and suggestions

shes going to be using a netbook for word, itunes and internet
    nothing graphics demanding
so i am just wondering how a 1000 performs with doing these tasks at the same
any help would be greatly appreciated :)

dave159 - I only had an Eee PC 1000H for two days - I loaded Office 2003 on it and sent it to my daughter. I was very happy with the purchase - and it ran Office 2003 without a problem. The LCD is very bright, the size and weight are just right, and the battery life is great (although not the advertised 6-7 hours from what I have heard). You might want to upgrade the RAM to 2-Gb from what I have seen here on NBR, but I didn't have any slow-downs the short time I worked with my daughter's Eee. I am going to order the 160-Gb version for myself as soon as they come back into stock at NewEgg.

I have a 1000h. I didn't want to end up carrying around a 15-17 inch laptop all day long.

I am a CS student so I run some fairly CPU and HDD intensive programs (compiles) as well as Office 2007 and other programs.

I have a 7200 RPM 200gb Seagate and 2 gb of RAM in it. Battery life is close to 5 hours.

I'd say it's pretty awesome for being 10".

Oh, and I've heard negative things about the 900s. (keyboard is unresponsive at times and such.)

My 1000H is en route (should be here this Friday :D) and prior to buying it I researched nearly every netbook in the $350-450 range extensively. The 1000H is definitely the best option, all things said. It has a great featureset, lots of extra goodies that the competitors don't include, and the price is reasonable.

The only other netbook I would consider is the Acer Aspire One. It's cheaper (only $400) and has similar specs to the 1000H, except it doesn't have Bluetooth, 802.11n, or a slipcase included. It also has a 9" screen and upgrading is much more difficult.

If you don't plan on upgrading, using Bluetooth, or having wireless-N, and 9" is a good enough size, you should consider the AA1. If not, the 1000H is a great netbook.
